Stop Trump’s Travel Ban Once and For All

Target: John G. Roberts, Jr., Chief Justice of the United States

Goal: Ensure that the prejudiced ban of travel into the U.S. from Muslim countries does not become law.

The Trump administration is still fighting to pass a travel ban against Muslim countries, and has petitioned the Supreme Court to review it after it was blocked — again — by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. This could result in a final verdict on the policy. The Supreme Court may not grant certioari, or agree to hear the case, in which case the former decision to block the ban would stand, for now.

If four of the nine Supreme Court justices vote to hear the case, the Court could uphold the 4th Circuit’s verdict that the travel ban is unconstitutional and “rooted in religious animus and intended to bar Muslims from this country,” or it could overturn that decision and restrict immigration from Somalia, Libya, Iran, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

In addition to this request, the Trump administration is asking that the decision of the 4th Circuit be stayed while the Supreme Court considers. Demand that this request be rejected, and that the unconstitutional and prejudiced ban on immigration from Muslim-majority countries blocked.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Justice Roberts,

The travel ban on six Muslim-majority countries that the Trump administration has been trying to push through is undemocratic, unconstitutional, and a clear violation of human rights. Multiple courts and judges — the latest being the Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit — have blocked this prejudiced policy, and this request to the Supreme Court may be the administration’s last resort.

As the 4th Circuit’s Chief Judge wrote, the “asserted national security interest … appears to be a post hoc, secondary justification for an executive action rooted in religious animus and intended to bar Muslims from this country.” America was built on immigration, and must continue to stand as a place of equality. I urge you not to grant a stay on the 4th Circuit’s ruling blocking the ban, and to do all you can to ensure that the travel ban is blocked for good.

Sincerely,

  1. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

isnt this racism? sure it is.

  2. Trump’s totally nonsensical and discriminatory ban needs to be permanently defeated.
If Trump really cared about protecting America as he claims, he wouldn’t have just signed an almost $110 billion deal to sell arms to Saudi Arabia – one of the main participants in the 911 terrorist attacks.
No one should believe a word Trump says. If he’s trying to ban Muslims, it’s for another agenda altogether – not to protect Americans.
