Demand Firing Of Teacher For Racist Award

Target: Greg Ollis, Superintendent of Channelview School District in Texas

Goal: Demand Texas teacher be fired for giving offensive award to students.

Teacher Stacey Lockett reportedly gave a black 7th grader an award for “most likely to blend in with white people.” Lockett was suspended and the school district has issued a formal statement denouncing such behavior, but Anthony Aguirre Junior High has yet to apologize to Sydney Caesar for this grievous upset.

A mere suspension is not punishment enough for Lockett, whose reported behavior has been described as “bullying.” Caesar was so upset by this award declaring her “not black enough” that she could not come to school the next day. Lockett has yet to apologize to Caesar, too, and no further disciplinary action has been taken against her. This is not acceptable. A teacher should not be allowed to demean a student as Lockett reportedly did to Caesar, especially in times like these. “We have enough bullying being done by he students, now it’s being done by a teacher,” Caesar’s mother said.

We must not allow future incidents like this to happen. Lockett must be fired for her alleged racism and bullying, and made an example of so that other teachers will not hurt their students in such a way. Sign this petition to demand Lockett be fired and that the school apologize formally to Caesar for this ugly incident.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Superintendent Ollis,

Stacey Lockett, a teacher at Anthony Aguirre Junior High, reportedly hurt and offended a black student with an award for “most likely to blend in with white people.” So far, the only disciplinary action taken was to suspend her, but the school and Lockett have yet to apologize for this behavior. The 7th grader was so upset she could not come to class the next day, and her mother has described the incident as “bullying.”

You must not allow Lockett to get away with such behavior. A temporary suspension is not enough punishment for such cruelty and racism, Lockett and the school must apologize to Sydney Caesar and Lockett must then be fired. In times like this, racially-motivated bullying is one of the worst things that can be done to a person, especially a child. These actions must be punished, and they must never be allowed to happen again.

Sincerely,
