Justice for Woman Beaten in Alleged Anti-Gay Attack

Target: Eric Gonzalez, Brooklyn District Attorney

Goal: Demand the maximum penalty for a man who reportedly shouted homophobic slurs and beat a lesbian woman unconscious.

A lesbian couple riding the subway in Brooklyn was subjected to homophobic slurs after they got into an argument with a man over a seat. The man, Antoine Thomas, allegedly bumped into them on purpose and then began shouting anti-gay epithets at the couple. After one of the women told Thomas to calm down, he reportedly attacked her viciously, hitting her repeatedly until she lay unconscious.

The woman suffered a broken eye socket and a concussion, and needed stitches for several deep cuts as a result of the brutal attack. This victim deserves justice, and if found guilty, Thomas’s actions must be punished.

While Thomas was arrested after he was found fleeing the incident, he was later released from jail without posting bail. The New York Police Department is currently investigating the issue as a possible hate crime, and charges of assault are likely to follow. If the reports are true, Thomas must not be allowed to go free and terrorize other gay couples. Sign this petition to demand that the Brooklyn District Attorney seek the maximum penalty for this hateful act.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Gonzalez,

A lesbian woman was left with serious injuries following an alleged attack on a New York subway. While the NYPD is investigating this incident as a possible hate crime, the suspect, Antoine Thomas, has been allowed to go free while awaiting charges of assault.

We demand that you act swiftly and demand the maximum possible penalty for this attack, which should be prosecuted as a hate crime if Thomas’s alleged actions were motivated by bias or hate. We urge you to do all in your power to keep the LGBTQ community and others of Brooklyn safe and protect them from violent actions such as this brutal attack.

Sincerely,

  1. Kathryn Irby says:

Justice for the Beating (to the point of Unconsciousness!!) of a Lesbian Woman by an Anti-Gay Thug–NOW!!! Unacceptable!!

  2. Fighting over a seat is not considered a hate crime. It is instigated by arguing over a seat. Name calling comes after. Grow up girls. On another note broken eye socket? Come on guys dont hit girls like you would a man its just not a fair fight. And ladies keep your hands off a man its their nature to fight off threats. Maybe he shoulda stood there and let her hit him but she probly was trying to break his eye sockets too. Stupid is as stupid does. She wasnt very nice person to begin with to fight over a stupid chair.

    • I was on that train and saw this this incident occur. The victim was not “trying to break his eye sockets too.”

    • I was accross from the victim on the train. I got on the same stop she did. The victim was already sitting before Thomas got on. There was no arguing or fighting over a seat, I saw Thomas lips moving but did not see a reaction from the two women. The victim barely said anything to this boy (and yes I said boy) and he continued to assualt her verbally, which then became a verbal threat, and soon physical assualt. Before putting your two sense in a situation you should know the actual story. This did not look like a fight from my view. More like an attack.
