Demand Trump Apologize for Comments Against U.S. Ally

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Apologize for stating that Germany is “really bad” in regards to trade, specifically German auto sales in the U.S.

President Donald Trump’s recent meetings with senior European Union officials has resulted in the latest diplomatic blunder from the U.S. president. During discussions, the President allegedly stated that “the Germans are bad, really bad.” He continued, saying, “Look at the millions of cars they sell in the U.S., terrible.”

The White House Chief Economic Adviser Gary Cohn stated, after German journalists published the details of the meeting including Trump’s words, that the President was commenting on Germany’s trade surplus and didn’t have anything personally against Germans or Germany as a whole.

While this may be the case, such careless remarks are diplomatically embarrassing and may be damaging to foreign relations with one of the United States’ closest political allies. Donald Trump already appeared to slight the German Prime Minister Angela Merkel when some noted on video it looked like he refused to shake her hand earlier this month.

Sign this petition to criticize Trump’s remarks and to demand that he make a formal apology.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

As you have met with a number of European Union officials, you have had the unique opportunity to represent the U.S. and its interests. This is why it is particularly disappointing that you appear to have denounced Germany, one of America’s strongest allies, as being “bad, really bad” for exporting its vehicles to the U.S.

Such comments come off as childish and are not becoming of a global leader in your position. We demand that you make a formal apology for your statements and seek to repair foreign relations moving forward, rather than tear them apart.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
