Target: Bryan Fischer
Goal: To correct several outrageous remarks regarding gay citizens and request an apology from anti-gay radio host.
Homophobic talk show host Bryan Fischer stated on his radio program that allowing children to be adopted by gay couples is nothing short of child abuse. Fischer, who is the director of Issues Analysis for the anti-gay rights group American Family Association, declared that gay relationships don’t last: “Companionship is just not one of the purposes that homosexuals can fulfill in marriage…they can’t do it.” According to this man, putting children in an “unnatural, immoral, and unhealthy” kind of environment would be, “a form of sexual abuse on its own.”
Further appalling and laughable remarks from this man include his declaration that liberty and the “homosexual agenda” cannot coexist, his demand for homosexuality to be “re-criminalized” in every state, and his pronouncement that J.C. Penny was responsible for women getting breast cancer purely because the company hired Ellen DeGeneres, who is openly gay, as their spokesperson. In addition, just recently Fischer stated on his radio program that while gay citizens only accounted for 2% of the U.S. population, they are associated with one-third of all child sex abuse cases. As far as these statistics go, it is unclear where his evidence came from, but it is clearly false.
These homophobic lies must be stopped and corrected. Tell this offensive man that his comments are disrespectful to the LGBT community and false in every sense of the word.
Dear Bryan Fischer,
I write to you in regard to many questionable statements of yours regarding homosexuality. Just recently you stated that the adoption of children via gay couples was “child abuse”. May I ask what gives you the right to assume this? Gay couples go through the same rigorous process of adoption that straight couples go through and must pass the same parenting tests. Contrary to what you preach, I must stress that being gay does not hinder the ability to love children.
I would also like to remind you that being gay is just as much of a choice as being straight is; in other words, it is not a choice at all. The Bible may condemn the gay lifestyle, but in case you have forgotten, this country abides by the laws of the Constitution. I urge you to remember that the next time you falsely accuse gays of being involved in a third of all child sex abuse crimes or state that homosexuality should be “re-criminalized” in all states.
I urge you to accept lifestyles that are not your own and apologize for your homophobic statements. Intolerance of different lifestyles is what is going to tear this country apart, not the “homosexual agenda”.
