Protect Oceans From Plastic Pollution

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Stop the spread of plastic pollution in oceans worldwide.

Ocean smog, a new form of water pollution that is made of disintegrated plastic, is taking over the seas. This is not only dangerous for aquatic wildlife and birds that live near the seas, but for the people who buy and eat certain species of fish. Recent studies have shown that one fourth of the fish used for seafood, sampled in places like California and Indonesia, had plastic in their stomachs, and birds have been dying of plastic suffocation since 2011.

It is yet unknown the extent of the damage this ingestion of plastic residue could do to humans, but it is too dangerous to wait to find out. The oceans are overcome with dissolved plastic from shopping bags and bottles and other cheap, disposable products, and the problem will only get worse with time unless we take measures to put a stop to it.

We deserve clean oceans, and so does aquatic wildlife. Sign this petition to demand that the EPA take drastic measures to stop ocean smog from becoming worse.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Administrator Pruitt,

A new form of water pollution is taking over the seas. Referred to as “ocean smog,” it is made up of disintegrated plastic, which is dumped into the oceans at an alarming rate every day. This pollution is dangerous not only to wildlife but to humans as well. While it is unknown just how dangerous, we do not want to take the chance to find out. Birds have died from suffocation upon ingesting mass amounts of plastic, and particles are found in the stomachs of at least one fourth of the seafood sold in coastline cities and towns.

You must take drastic measures to prevent this problem from worsening. All living beings on this planet deserve clean water, and we should not have to fear the repercussions of ingesting large quantities of plastic. You must do more to stop plastic pollution in the oceans.

Sincerely,

no more plastic! keep plastic out of the ocean now!

  2. Plastic pollution causes the torturous suffering and deaths of myriads of animals worldwide. Plastic is a scourge on this earth. There MUST be action taken to clean up plastic waste and to massively curtail plastic production.

  3. 5 countries dump 1/2 of all plastics into the ocean. Copied from the article:

Vietnam Indonesia China Sri Lanka Phillipines are responsible for one half of 8.8 tons of plastic dumped in the worlds oceans annually.

Sad and SICKENING. Only that kingdom of God will solve ALL mankinds problems forever 🙂 🙂

  4. BAN THE PLASTIC THAT IS TAKING A HORRIFIC TOLL ON THE MARINE LIFE NOW.

Plastic is a relatively new man made material. No one really knows how long it lasts. Please recycle, reuse, and if possible don’t buy anything made of plastic. By 2050 the oceans will have more plastic than fish in them. Fish are eating plastic by mistake and strangling themselves in it. Not only do they have plastic in their stomachs the oceans are becoming filthy with plastic.

  7. This is a touchstone to see how conscious and conscientious you are about the clear and present danger we humans have been creating.

  8. STOP killing our oceans and wildlife! — shame on all of humanity for being responsible for these cruel & preventable crimes.

  9. People from uneducated countries seem to care less about the environment. Traveled in several of these areas, all about shrines and temples but their beautiful landscapes and waters are mere dirt pockets! It is time that governments, leaders, lead!

  10. The article has a very interesting topic. There should be an educational campaign about water pollution of the ocean. There’s ocean smog because of the irresponsible acts of some people who don’t dispose of their waste properly. Due to this plastic in the ocean, birds and fishes are badly affected. The fish that we eat have plastics in their intestines because of this. Self-discipline is what we need by not polluting our waters with plastics.
