Shut Down Traveling Circus Act Accused of Abusing Tigers

Target: Sonny Perdue, Secretary of Agriculture

Goal: Close down ShowMe Tigers, a traveling circus act accused of abusing their tigers.

Circuses have long been known for treating their animals cruelly. The creatures are frequently chained, beaten and kept in small cages for the vast majority of their lives. The popular Ringling Bros circus just gave its final performances, but there are still other circuses out there mistreating animals. ShowMe Tigers is not a circus itself, but a traveling act that circuses hire. An investigation by the Humane Society reported that their tigers are kept in cages with only 13 square feet each, and that they’re regularly whipped and beaten with sticks.

There are official legal standards of care for circus animals, but too often these standards go unmet and the perpetrators are not punished for the harm they inflict on innocent animals. Tigers should be fed a varied diet and vitamin supplements, yet at ShowMe Tigers they were allegedly fed exclusively raw chicken. The tigers were also reportedly kept in below freezing temperatures, showing again that they are not being respected and treated as living beings but instead as products. Sign this petition to shut down ShowMe Tigers and save tigers from a life of abuse.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Perdue,

The animals at some large circuses may not be suffering through abuse anymore, but the big cats at ShowMe Tigers still are. These beautiful cats require a lot of space, specialized diets and enrichment activities to lead healthy lives in captivity. They are not receiving that, but instead are being savagely beaten, according to the Humane Society as reported in their recent investigation. The tigers are also allegedly having food withheld some days, and enduring below freezing temperatures with nothing but an inch of bedding.

Tigers performing for ShowMe Tigers have reportedly been seen flinching and cowering, clearly traumatized by prior abuse, and proper veterinary care has allegedly been neglected in at least one known case. Other accusations made against ShowMe Tigers include that no vitamins are given to the tigers, that their diets are not being varied at all so they are most likely nutritionally deficient in several areas, and that they aren’t let out of their tiny cages to exercise except for when they’re performing and training. In one two minute period, a tiger was reportedly whipped more than thirty times. This horrible abuse must be put to an end. Please take action to shut down this cruel circus act for good.

Sincerely,
