Prevent Pesticides from Leaching into U.S. Water Bodies

ID-10049836

Target: US Senators

Goal: Don’t allow pesticides to leach into U.S. water bodies.

Every five years, the US Senate passes a bundle of laws pertaining to agriculture in the Farm Bill. This year, the Hagan amendment that has been proposed would undermine the Clean Water Act, allowing pesticides in American water bodies. These pesticides will affect drinking water and habitats for endangered marine wildlife.

The problem with the Hagan amendment is that it allows for the unregulated application of pesticides near water bodies. This legislation is a direct violation of the Clean Water Act, which requires applying for a permit before administering pesticides. These permits are intended to limit pesticide exposure for wildlife, and ensure that all pesticide use is monitored by the EPA.

Pesticide companies are one of the biggest lobby groups in America, and their political influence is rarely positive for the welfare of Americans. Every year, over 2 billion dollars of pesticides are sold and distributed in the United States. Obviously, the lobbyists who put this bill forward were only concerned for the profits of big business, not the health and safety of the animals in the water or the humans who drink it.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear US Senators,

The Hagan amendment that has been attached to the Farm Bill is completely irrelevant. This amendment will be detrimental to the health and safety of American wildlife and humans. The pesticides must be regulated and I urge you to stop the passage of this amendment.

This legislation is a direct violation of the Clean Water Act, which requires applying for a permit before administering pesticides. These permits are intended to limit pesticide exposure for wildlife, and ensure that all pesticide use is monitored by the EPA. The problem with the Hagan amendment is that it allows for the unregulated application of pesticides near waterways, and it’s not acceptable to let this amendment proceed.

Obviously, the lobbyists who put forward this bill were only concerned for the profits of big business, and not the health and safety of the animals in the water or the humans who drink it. It’s important that the legislators of America protect their people and natural creatures. This amendment must be repealed and pesticides must be controlled.

Sincerely,
