Help Save Rapidly Declining Bee Populations

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Get businesses to plant bee-friendly flowers around their stores.

Bees are vital to our livelihood, and with the rapid decline of bee populations, we are facing a bleak future. Bee pollination accounts for a substantial percentage of our food supply. In order to keep the bee populations stable, and our own food supply safe, we must make it a priority to plant more bee-friendly flowers.

More and more businesses are becoming greener and more eco-friendly. Consumers are voicing their opinions when it comes to reducing pollution and saving animals facing extinction. Conservationists are hearing the cry of the public to save the bees, and it’s about time that businesses heard that cry, too. Requiring businesses to plant bee-friendly flowers around their stores or in a designated bee area would help increase the bee population.

Businesses would be improving their reputation by becoming involved in conservation efforts. Consumers would be more likely to support businesses that were visibly committed to helping the environment. Grocery stores would benefit from the involvement of saving the bees, as would food companies. It would be an easy way to improve public opinion for businesses that are perhaps not as highly valued as those already making conscious efforts to save the planet. Businesses could also receive a tax break that was tailored to the number of bee-friendly flowers that they planted in a fiscal year.

With the recent addition of seven bee species to the endangered species list, now is a great time to get involved in these kinds of conservation efforts. Businesses often tend to stay neutral on big issues, but this is one that all businesses should get in on. Please sign this petition to encourage businesses to plant bee-friendly flowers.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Scott Pruitt,

With the addition of seven bee species to the endangered species list, it’s crucial to get everyone involved in their conservation efforts. Bees provide a substantial percentage of our food supply and without them, we’re in a lot of trouble. While businesses may not be the greatest danger to bees, many of them are in a position to help these valuable pollinators.

Encouraging businesses to plant bee-friendly flowers would help to provide vital nourishment to bees and could possibly replenish some struggling species. In return for planting bee-friendly flowers, businesses could receive a tax break as an incentive.

In addition to helping the bee populations, businesses would also be increasing their reputation with consumers. More consumers are paying close attention to how businesses are either helping or hurting the environment. Businesses that used to take neutral positions on these issues are now coming under pressure from consumers who want eco-friendly policies and products. Consumers readily protest businesses that hurt the environment, choosing those that are eco-friendly instead.

I urge you to require businesses to plant bee-friendly flowers and help stabilize the bee populations. After all, our future as a species largely hinges on bees’ survival.

Sincerely,
