Stop the Michigan House from Restricting Abortion Rights

Target: Michigan House of Representatives

Goal: Don’t restrict abortion rights for women in Michigan.

A Michigan House committee approved a package of bills that place restrictions on abortions continuing the attack on women across the United States. A couple of the bills include banning abortions 20 weeks or more after conception and increasing regulations for abortion clinics. Sign this petition, asking the House of Representatives not to approve these bills limiting women’s rights.

The bills ban abortions 20 weeks or more after conception except in emergency cases when the mother’s life is at risk. Although the United States Supreme Court upholds the practice of late-term abortions, eight states have developed laws restricting abortions 20 weeks or later. The bills also require abortion clinics to be licensed surgical centers and create new requirements for disposing of aborted fetus remains. The head of Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan said the bills place “burdensome requirements” on women’s health clinics that only provide oral abortion medication by forcing them to upgrade for surgical abortions they do not perform. Another regulation will prohibit doctors from administering drug-induced early abortions by talking to the patient via Internet camera. The abortion medication provided over the Internet should not be restricted when it is the only way some women can receive the medication.

These bills are just an attempt to attack women’s rights and make it more difficult to receive a procedure that should be legal and safe. The government should not be telling women how they can and should receive health care. Sign this petition, telling the Michigan House of Representative not to impede on women’s rights and not to approve these abortion bills.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Michigan House of Representatives,

A package of bills was approved by a House committee recently and will make its way to the House of Representatives. The bills limit women’s rights and make unnecessary restrictions on abortions. Please do not approve these bills.

The bills include banning abortions 20 weeks or more after conception, requiring abortion clinics to be licensed surgical centers, creating new requirements for disposing of aborted fetus remains, and prohibiting doctors from administering drug-induced early abortions by talking to the patient via Internet camera. The United States Supreme Court upholds the practice of late-term abortions such as ones 20 weeks or later and abortion medication provided over the Internet should not be restricted when it is the only way some women can receive the medication.

The head of Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan said the bills place “burdensome requirements” on women’s health clinics that only provide oral abortion medication by forcing them to upgrade for surgical abortions they do not perform. The government should not be telling women how they can and should receive health care. I am writing asking the House of Representatives not to approve these bills.

Sincerely,
