Stop Trump From Allowing Deadly Pesticide Produced by Major Donor

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Ensure federal government does not throw out results from pesticide assessments at the behest of chemical giant.

Dow Chemical has requested that the Trump Administration overlook scientific research related to several commonly-used pesticides. This is the latest aggressive move to reduce government oversight from an agribusiness sector which has been emboldened by the changing political climate.

The class of pesticides known as chlorpyrifos, reviewed by the Environmental Protection Agency, were found to cause significant harm in 1778 out of 1835 plant and animal species. Particularly alarming is the potential impact in humans. Several studies have found a strong link between prenatal exposure to chlorpyrifos and later development of autism and ADHD. This is especially true in rural farming communities where pregnant women frequently live in proximity to fields sprayed with the pesticide. A study summarized in The Intercept found women who resided within a mile of treated fields were three times more likely to have an autistic child.

Despite a growing body of evidence pointing to the damage caused by pesticides, Dow Chemical has been successful in lobbying for their continued use. In 2016 alone, Dow spent over $13 million on lobbying efforts in Congress, and contributed another $1 million toward President Trump’s inauguration. The company’s influence extends beyond financing as their CEO serves as the head of an industry working group formed by the president.

We cannot allow the Trump Administration to continue ignoring scientific consensus and endangering public health when requested by big business. Please sign the below petition demanding that the Environmental Protection Agency ban the use of harmful pesticides.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Administrator Pruitt,

I am writing to demand that you ban the use of harmful pesticides such as chlorpyrifos. Dow Chemical recently requested that scientific research indicating these pesticides cause significant damage in plant and animal species be ignored. Further studies have found a direct link between pesticide exposure and development of autism in children.

As a public servant you have a responsibility to prioritize public safety over business interests.

Sincerely,

  1. trup doesn’t care about our air or pollution!

  2. MUST BAN THE PESTICIDES FOR GOOD NOW.

  3. Bribery of government by lobbying groups and corporations should be banned and prosecuted. Of course when they “donate” money they expect obedience in return.
Stop bribery and corruption in government!
