Allow an Open Democracy in Ethiopia

Target: Mulatu Teshome, President of Ethiopia

Goal: Stop silencing the opposition and allow democracy in Ethiopia.

Hundreds of innocent civilians have been killed in demonstrations in Ethiopia after the autocratic government has declared a state of emergency. Democracy has been suppressed and any and all political opposition has been silenced.

In only a year, 669 civilians have been murdered and tens of thousands have been arrested while protesting the nation’s government. The government has been in power for over two decades and the economy has boomed. However, this prosperity has come at the cost of the rights of the citizens.

Political and personal freedoms should not be traded for economic stability. If Ethiopia wants to take its place among the world’s growing nations, it needs to grant its citizens rights and freedoms like speech and assembly. Sign the petition and demand that the Ethiopian government allow open democracy in its country.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Teshome,

Hundreds of your citizens have been murdered and thousands have been arrested for speaking out against the government. Although your nation is experiencing economic prosperity, it has come at the cost of the safety and freedom of your citizens.

If Ethiopia hopes to continue to prosper, it cannot do so when its citizens are silenced. An active citizenship that challenges government and speaks up when needed is the only way for a modern nation to thrive. I ask that you end your nation’s state of emergency, end the silencing of your opposition, and allow democratic freedoms in your nation.

Sincerely,

  1. This government is incredibly oppressive and cruel, persecuting and/or murdering all the courageous people who dare to question their tyranny.
This must stop. The world is watching!
