U.S. Senators: Do Not Pass Discriminatory Trumpcare

Target: Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Do not pass repeal-and-replace healthcare bill in the Senate

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that aims to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, more popularly known as Obamacare. The bill will now move to the Senate, and if it passes there, it will only need Donald Trump’s signature to become law.
The bill includes several problematic changes to the existing healthcare system in the United States. Under Obamacare, insurance companies could not charge more for coverage if patients had pre-existing health conditions. The new bill does not guarantee the same protection. Furthermore, some of the possible pre-existing conditions that could cost patients more under the new plan include: pregnancy, having been the victim of domestic abuse, and having been the victim of sexual assault.
Almost every developed country in the world provides universal healthcare for its citizens. The Affordable Care Act attempted to bring the United States closer to being one of these countries, and the repeal-and-replace bill is a step backward. It will take the U.S. further from that goal and potentially endanger the health of millions of Americans. Furthermore, the new list of pre-existing conditions that could increase healthcare costs are a thinly veiled attack on the women of America. The bill also partially defunds Planned Parenthood, which provides important reproductive and preventative healthcare for low-income women.
This bill removes important healthcare safeguards for women as well as low-income and sick Americans. Add your name to the petition below to demand the the United States Senate not pass this discriminatory bill.

Dear Senator McConnell,

The House of Representatives has passed a bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The implications of Donald Trump signing this bill into law would be far-reaching and detrimental to millions of Americans, including low-income citizens, sick citizens, and women.

It is possible under that this new healthcare system, people could be denied or overcharged for healthcare due to pre-existing conditions, which could include pregnancy, being the victim of domestic violence, or being the victim of sexual assault. In essence, this new system could punish women for having survived domestic or sexual violence. Furthermore, the bill removes funding from Planned Parenthood, jeopardizing millions of women’s access to preventative and reproductive healthcare.

I strongly urge you to vote against this discriminatory bill when it comes to the Senate floor. Removing important healthcare protections from millions of American citizens is not the appropriate way to replace the Affordable Care Act. I demand that as the majority leader, you do all you can to stop this bill from passing in the Senate.
