Save Endangered Tree Frogs From Habitat Loss

Target: Jimmy Morales, president of Guatemala

Goal: Protect the Morelet’s tree frog from habitat destruction.

The Morelet’s tree frog has been driven almost to extinction by habitat destruction. Humans have destroyed so much of the world’s rainforests already, there are fewer and fewer places where these frogs are able to survive. They used to be quite common as pets, but even that is being affected by their decline in population. Agriculture and industry encroach on the Morelet’s tree frog’s range, threatening their very survival. They’ve already gone extinct in southern Mexico.

Morelet’s tree frogs are found in Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala, among other countries in Central and South America. While this species was once widespread in the area, they’re now critically endangered due to disease and habitat loss. Little research has been done and the population is not known for certain. More must be done to find what conservation methods will work best for these rare frogs. For now, we must at least halt the rampant habitat destruction in the name of industry. Sign this petition to protect the habitats of Morelet’s tree frogs.

Dear Mr. Morales,

A frog that used to be common in your country is now on the brink of extinction. The growth of industry can be a boon to any country, but not all countries are fortunate enough to have such a rare creature endemic to the area. The Morelet’s tree frog is at risk of being wiped out completely. It’s simply not worth the loss of a critically endangered species, just to line a few executives’ pockets. Stand up for Guatemalan pride by putting your native species before profits.

Morelet’s tree frogs used to make popular pets, but the decimation of their population has led to a decrease in popularity. They’re social creatures, said to be calm and quiet except for during mating season when they croak continuously. The population of the Morelet’s tree frog is declining for several reasons, but most of their struggle is due to the one threat under human control: whether or not we actively destroy an animal’s habitat. Please take action to restrict the areas being bulldozed and save these rare frogs.

Do you think most people give a tinker’s dam about what happens to a bunch of endangered tree frogs??? All “most” people care about is themselves – a sickness that is putting even their own species in irreversible danger – but then “that” is pretty much what we deserve – – –
