Success: United Airlines Compensates and Apologizes to Passenger Dragged Off Flight

Target: Oscar Munoz, Chief Executive Officer of United Airlines

Goal: Thank United Airlines for taking responsibility for incident in which a passenger was violently removed from a plane.

United Airlines received serious backlash when footage was released revealing a passenger being forcibly removed from a flight. When it was discovered the flight was overbooked, passenger Dr. David Dao was removed from his seat and dragged down the aisle of the plane and later found with a bleeding face. As expected, this incident received serious social media backlash and sparked many petitions, like this ForceChange one, demanding that something is done to prevent further incidents like this from occurring.

Recently, United Airlines reached a settlement with Dr. David Dao and accepted responsibility for the incident. A spokesperson for United Airlines said, “We are pleased to report that United and Dr. Dao have reached an amicable resolution of the unfortunate incident that occurred aboard flight 3411. We look forward to implementing the improvements we have announced, which will put out customers at the center of everything we do.”

These improvements include a new check-in process that would allow passengers to volunteer to give up their seats for compensation. They also announced that they would no longer ask law enforcement officers to help remove passengers.

Sign this petition to thank United Airlines for taking responsibility for their actions and making changes to help ensure similar incidents do not occur.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Munoz,

The issue involving passenger Dr. Dao sparked serious backlash for United Airlines and it is clear that that backlash has pushed you to make some necessary changes.

We applaud you for reaching a settlement with Dr. Dao and for working to improve the conditions of your airline. A new check-in process that gives passengers the option to choose to give up their seat is needed should be beneficial in preventing this from happening again.

We also appreciate the airline taking responsibility for the terrible and violent incident that occurred. It is important that you always put your customer’s safety first and acknowledge when you don’t. We hope these changes will impact United Airlines in a positive way for all passengers.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

I AM NOT SIGNING THIS PETITION.
The airline was eventually forced to this outcome.
It should be perfectly clear that UA is suffering from inadequate, bad leadership, something proved time and again, even after the particular incident.
I cannot fathom what the purpose of this petition is.
    Please cancel this petition immediately.

    if success, congrats!

    Sorry, cannot sign.
    Overbooking should be illegal.

  7. I won’t sign either. UA shouldn’t be allowed to exist. Not only was their treatment of this customer despicable, but the behaviour of the CEO was beyond contempt. In addition, there have been several reports of pets dying whilst in their care and being transported on their planes.

If it wasn’t for smartphones and social media, these incidences wouldn’t have to come light.

  8. I WILL NOT thank United Airlines!!!! This should have never happened!!!! Oh, they take responsibility for it…..oh, until the next time.

  9. Patricia Dumais says:

I agree with all those who would not sign. There is no “compensation” for bad treatment. This pardons the airline and they will go right back to their old ways.

  10. Now you know what to expect because they are more united, unified, unique and unideal.
    New United slogans
“Come for the seating, stay for the beating”
“United Airlines. Putting the hospital in hospitality”
“Board as doctors, leave as patients”
“Early boarding, late boarding, water boarding, all the same to us”
“We can’t beat our competition, but we can beat you”
“You are now free to be thrown around the cabin”
