Ban Dakota Access Pipeline Company From State After Devastating Spill

Target: John Kasich, Governor of Ohio

Goal: Ban Energy Transfer Partners, the Dallas-based company behind the destructive Dakota Access Pipeline, from operating in the state of Ohio.

Recently, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), was responsible for a massive spill of drilling materials into Ohio’s fragile wetland ecosystem, including the loss of roughly 2 million gallons of drilling fluid (and possibly more) to the environment.

The Washington Post reported that the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) condemned ETP for “a ‘pattern’ of 18 spills of drilling materials,” with  the size of the biggest spill potentially reaching 5 million gallons, “more than double original estimates.”

Ohio’s EPA has fined the ETP and some of ETP’s drilling operations have been curtailed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) because of the spills, yet there is no clear ban on this company from operating in the state of Ohio. In fact, the FERC has allowed ETP to continue horizontal drilling operations in certain parts of the state. This is not what is best for the environment or the people of Ohio. Sign below to demand that Energy Transfer Partners be blocked from operating anywhere in the state.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Kasich,

You are on record as having acknowledged that climate change is a real and pressing issue; yet, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) was responsible for a number of spills of drilling materials (including drilling fluid, used in natural gas exploration) into Ohio’s wetland ecosystem.

Positive steps have been taken since these incidents occurred: a curtailment of ETP’s operations by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and a fine by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

However, ETP continues to damage the environment. Its track record on environmental stewardship should be considered unsatisfactory by any standard. It is for this reason that we believe the company should be outright banned from operating in the state of Ohio.

Please pressure your state government to instate this ban.

Sincerely,

  2. Totally agree they should be banned from Ohio. They have proved themselves to be completely irresponsible over and over again, with no end in sight.

  3. WE ALL TOLD YOU SO, YOU IDIOTS!
