Punish Cops Who Held Innocent Black Boys at Gunpoint

Target: David Rahinsky, Grand Rapids, Michigan Police Chief

Goal: Fire cops who allegedly terrorized school-age boys by holding them at gunpoint for 10 minutes on their way home from playing basketball.

Five young black boys were swarmed by local police on their way home from a rec center and held at gunpoint by the cops for 10 minutes while they cried and pleaded for their lives, as recently released body camera footage shows. The boys were all unarmed, and between 12 and 14 years old.

Police claimed that the boys matched a description from a fight that had broken out earlier that day, in which a witness claimed to have seen a young man drop a gun. However, it is not an appropriate response to surround a group of boys, guns drawn, hold them there for 10 minutes, then handcuff them and put them in the backs of police cars. The cops later admitted that these children were not the suspect they were looking for. The boys were unarmed, as the police could easily have confirmed by patting them down and then let them go within a minute or two, instead of terrorizing them at gunpoint. Demand that the officers involved be punished for their racist and harmful actions toward these innocent boys.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Rahinsky,

It is unacceptable for a group of policemen with guns drawn to surround unarmed, innocent, young black boys and hold them at gun point for 10 minutes, cuff them, and put them in the back of police cars when they have done nothing wrong. These boys were school-aged and walking back from a rec center, and were terrified by the cops who drew guns on them.

On the body camera footage, the boys can be heard crying, begging the cops to put down the guns, and saying, “I don’t want to die.” There was no need to instill this sort of terror in these children, when the officers could have just patted them down to confirm they were unarmed. The actions of these officers were racist, irresponsible, and harmful to the community that police are sworn to protect. I urge you to punish these officers for their actions.

Sincerely,

  1. I am appalled by these police officers actions. In my opinion this would not have happened if the boys would have been white. I’m sick of this racist crap. White skin does not make you any better than any other nationality. Actually quite the contrary.

  2. Saw the video. It is horrifying how the cops terrorized these innocent children.
The corrupt, sadistic and power-hungry cops should be fired.
These children have been traumatized. I hope their families sue.
