Protect Wildlife From Deadly Corporate Pesticide

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Goal: Don’t ignore the scientifically proven risks posed to endangered species by deadly toxins in pesticides.

Dow Chemicals has tried to push the Trump Administration to ignore the findings of four years’ worth of government-funded scientific research investigating the risks pesticides such as chlorpyrifos pose to the environment. These results have shown that nearly 1,800 threatened or endangered species are at risk at least partially due to exposure to pesticides. Lawyers representing Dow’s CEO and close Trump confidant Andrew Liveris have reportedly sent letters to Trump cabinet members urging them to ignore these results and proceed with deregulating the use of these toxic chemicals.

In keeping with a pattern of general dismissiveness toward science, analysis think EPA head Scott Pruitt will side with Dow Chemicals.

The case against chlorpyrifos and other organophosphate pesticides has been made time and again through scientific research. Since the early 2000s, we have known that even tiny amounts of exposure to chlorpyrifos can hinder the brain’s development in children. Now thanks to rigorous, peer-reviewed findings conducted under the Obama administration, we know that these threats extend to virtually every living thing, and could threaten species already on the brink of extinction.

Ignoring well-established scientific truths in favor of corporate requests sets a dangerous precedent for policy-making. While lobbyists and lawyers may promote so-called “alternative facts” regarding science and the environment, the truth regarding the risks these pesticides pose to wildlife and the public cannot be swayed. Sign this petition to urge Scott Pruitt to confront the scientific reality of these threats, and to not proceed with the dangerous deregulation of these pesticides.

Dear Mr. Pruitt,

A letter recently sent from lawyers representing Dow Chemicals appears to make an appeal to essentially ignore science and years’ worth of government-funded research showing the risks to wildlife posed by pesticides such as chlorpyrifos. The EPA’s own evidence has previously demonstrated the risk these toxins pose to children. The science presented in these reports is the result of careful observation, experimentation and peer review, and cannot be thrown out the window simply because Dow is unhappy with the findings.

Please do not “set aside” this crucial research and ensure that safeguards remain in place to protect endangered wildlife and the public from exposure to these pesticides.

  1. Anne Moeller says:

We must put a stop to the poisoning of all wildlife AND funding the GREEDY corporations and politicians!

    • Trump is a moron, and is the perfect government puppet. As a matter of fact, the dumber the presidents, the more useful they are to our corrupted system. We would be better off with mannequins running the show.

  2. Signed and fingers crossed, but I’m pretty sure that Mr Pruitt and his boss could not care less for the environment, or wildlife, if they actually tried.

  3. Dr. Tony DeLia says:

Asking Scott Pruitt to protect the environment and wildlife is like asking Putin to step down from power or Trump to release his tax returns.

The solution is to vote Democrat in 2018. Democrats do not have all the answers but they are not about to destroy two centuries of progress like this administration and its congressional enablers are bent on doing in pursuit of their dystopian dreamworld.

  4. I write as a matter of conscience but Pruitt is too stupid, too ignorant and too controlled by big agri and the fossil fuel industry to give a damn about science and the environment.

  5. Absolutely no way… I guess once we start suing these corporations for sicknesses caused by pesticides, hopefully then they will sit up and listen. I hope to God Pruitt does this for our environment, the animal life and the people on this planet, including his own family.

  6. Caryl Sawyer says:

What a bloody waste of effort! I just asked a Trump puppet, who has no spine, to do what is morally right!

  7. How can we possibly think that Scott Pruitt and his boss give a damn about anyone but themselves?!

The environment, the health of our citizens and precious wildlife means little to them. They are addicted to power and money. Empty-headed, shallow bullies that offer nothing positive to help anyone who isn’t as pathetic as they are!
Can they be any more corrupt? They have no idea what is really valuable.

  8. Pesticides and Herbicides damage our endocrine systems and damages our digestive systems. It is proven. These toxins poison our wildlife and these poor animals suffer a slow painful death. This is unacceptable.

  10. martin elster says:

No responsible person contends that insect-borne disease should be ignored. The question that has now urgently presented itself is whether it is either wise or responsible to attack the problem by methods that are rapidly making it worse. The world has heard much of the triumphant war against disease through the control of insect vectors of infection, but it has heard little of the other side of the story—the defeats, the short-lived triumphs that now strongly support the alarming view that the insect enemy has been made actually stronger by our efforts. Even worse, we may have destroyed our very means of fighting. —Rachel Carson

  11. Susan Fong says:

Other species have a right to live too. We should control insects by using natural predators. Stop making these big chemical companies even richer by allowing them to use known toxins which kill wildlife and may hurt people too. Money is NOT more important than life. The Republican President and Republican Congress need to get consciences!

  12. If one used poison on a human being, and caused the cesation of life, would it not be murder? And if so, would the prosecution not hand out the approbiate sentence? And if an accomplice to this fact were known, would not he or she, or them also be in fact prosecuted simularely? Your time is coming Mr. Pruitt. It might soon be so, that the enlightened publice will seek vengance Mr. Pruit, on you and your bosses, count your days.

  17. Kathy Terrell says:

may all these greedy, money hungry fools experience what the scientist have warned of–on a personal level.

  18. Lisa Zarafonetis says:

  19. Asking Scott Pruitt to care about the environment.

    Is this a joke ??!!??

Scott Pruitt is going to ruin the world the rest of us want to live in.

    Good luck America.
