Do Not Welcome Philippine Leader Duterte To The White House

Target: Donald Trump

Goal: Do not welcome controversial leader Rodrigo Duterte to the White House.

Donald Trump recently spoke on the phone with Rodrigo Duterte, leader of the Philippines, and invited him to visit the White House. The administration reported that Duterte and Trump had a “very friendly conversation,” which included the topic of North Korea as a growing military threat and the drug war in the Philippines.

Duterte won the Philippine presidency last year and was compared to Trump many times throughout his candidacy due to the extreme rhetoric he used in his speeches. Since assuming power, Duterte has committed possible human rights violations in an effort to control the country’s drug problem. Police in the Philippines have killed thousands of citizens in the months since Duterte took office.

International human rights groups have taken notice of the situation in the Philippines, with at least one calling for a criminal investigation of the leader. The American president, who has already showcased extreme bigtory and disregard toward several demographics of American citizens, should not welcome such a controversial leader to the White House. Add your name to the petition below to demand this visit not take place.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Trump,

You recently spoke with Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte and invited him to visit the White House. As you’re well aware, Duterte has cracked down on the drug problem in his country since assuming power, but he has done so in such a violent way that he is suspected of having committed human rights offenses.

Thousands of Philippine citizens have been killed at the hands of police since Duterte took over, and to extend an invitation to a leader who is under such close watch by human rights groups, and who used bigoted and extreme rhetoric on the campaign trail, is to ignore the policies that have warranted this scrutiny.

I urge you not to follow through on Duterte’s invitation to the White House. Your relationship with such a controversial leader is troubling, and the United States should distance itself as much as possible from the potential human rights offenses being committed by the Philippine government.

Sincerely,

  1. This petition is bound to fail. We filipinos finally have a leader which is strong and committed to fight and corruption. The only people who have the right to comment on the way our president handles our country. it is us filipinos. We voted for him because we are tired of the status quo. You rich people do not experience what we experience everyday. Conduct survey here and you will be amazed how Filipinos support the current administriation. It is better that criminals die, than letting them live and kill innocent people. Criminals at the first place didn’t respect the right to live of their victims, why respect them. Human rights group are pro criminal, how about the victims of these criminals. No matter what you say, we 16 million filipinos who voted form him, will support him.

    • I have to admit a lack of understanding about the situation in the Philippines. But from the info that’s out there, Duterte’s regime is executing people suspected of drug crimes, with no formal investigation, no charges, no trial, no conviction and no sentencing. Just execution on the street. If that’s wrong, please correct me.

      • We cannot directly say that these killings are state sponsored. It could be that members of the syndicates themselves killed those who they think are “threats”. It is known that some members of these syndicates are police officers. Duterte is the first president in our country who had the courage to name those big personalities involved with drugs, thats why they are doing their best with their money to produce black propaganda just to destroy our president. We had already ousted 2 presidents through people power and we can do that if we are not satisfied with our president. A survey has been conducted recently and still our president enjoys a high trust rating, it is because people are satisfied. He is just protecting the safety of the public. And we are happy with it.

        • Thanks for your thoughtful response. It’s helpful to see this from the perspective of someone actually more familiar with the situation.
Good and decent leaders in this world are routinely slandered and demonized by corrupt and hostile governments and their media tools. This may certainly be the case with Duterte.
Now I will be educating myself on this more – and not just via the mainstream North American media.

Given the fact that Duterte had the audacity to have called President Obama’s mother “a whore,” that would make him 100% Unfit to even enter the United States!! He has exemplified the fact that he is nothing but mere Gutter Trash!

    • LOL! Who’s inviting? Duterte does not pursue to be there anyway. So you should not be on your goddamn high horse. Don’t you worry he will turn down Trumps invitation, I’m sure of that.

      • You have not right to call him Trash. We Filipinos have finally started to receive what we wished long before. Past presidents were oligarchs, serving the interest of rich people in the society. In just less than a year, he had already achieved what our past presidents couldn’t do in their whole term.
1.)Raising the pension of our seniors.
2.)Multibilion infrastructure development in Mindanao, previously the developments where so much focused on manila.
3.) Income tax exemption for those earning minimum.
4.) More international fundings and investments.
5.) Less corruption, speedy and organized in goverment services.
6.) Development to the forgotten southern island, the Mindanao.
7.) He still have 5 years we know there are more things that he can do.

  3. Selena Brooks says:

I agree with Kathryn ??there are too many presidents around who are ALL about themselves and not the people who they work for. To be honest more background information needs to be introduced to the people they want to serve.

  4. America itself is a huge violator of human rights and a committer of war crimes. Americans need to wake up from the delusion that they are taught in school and by their media that America is the “good” country fighting against all these “bad” countries. Please educate yourselves people.
America has been hobnobbing with despots and dictators for many many years – precisely because it is LIKE them.
