Fire Cop Accused of Slamming Student on Ground

Target: Kristen Stephens, Fort Collins City Council Member

Goal: Fire police officer who was allegedly caught on video violently throwing a college student to the ground and arresting her, if guilty.

Video footage appears to show a college student and sorority member being violently thrown to the ground face first by police. The victim, 22-year-old Michaella Surat, says the attack left her with injuries including a concussion, bruises, and difficulty eating. She also added that she feels humiliated about the video of her violent arrest, which has gone viral. To make matters worse, the sorority that Surat was a member of were placed under a gag order and expected to remain silent on this apparent disgusting case of injustice. Several members chose to remain anonymous, but showed up at a protest against the alleged excessive force used by the officer who arrested Surat.

Surat was reportedly at the scene when police responded to an altercation between two men, but it seems police turned their attention to brutalizing her. However, it seems the officer isn’t going to be held accountable as he was reportedly placed on administrative leave, but the leave is not disciplinary in nature. It’s imperative that we put pressure on the authorities to stop police brutality. Please add your signature to the petition below to demand that this officer be fired and held accountable if guilty of using unnecessary, excessive force.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Stephens,

A video appears to show a police officer violently throwing a college student to the ground and arresting her. The victim says the brutal arrest left her with a concussion, bruises, and even eating difficulties.

The officer in the video appears to have no good reason for using such brutal, excessive force on this young woman. We, the undersigned, demand that the officer be held accountable and fired if guilty of this apparent disgusting case of excessive force.

Sincerely,

  1. The police are not competent to investigate this. They are already protecting this cop, and they have the judge on their side, who shamefully put a gag order on this. The assault on this girl MUST be investigated by an INDEPENDENT outsider or this victim will have no justice.
