Trump: Remove Wage-Gap Denier As Women’s Issues Adviser

Target: Donald Trump

Goal: Do not allow Stephen Miller to advise on women’s issues within your administration.

Senior presidential adviser Stephen Miller has been slated to work with Ivanka Trump on women’s issues in the Trump White House. This work will involve child care and family leave, among other issues. In the past, Miller has denied the existence of the well-documented wage gap between men and women in the United States, and he has argued against legislation that promotes equal pay and calls for paid maternity leave for American mothers.

The very idea of appointing a man to consult on and possibly dictate legislation regarding women’s issues is absurd; but to make things worse, Miller does not support bringing America into the modern age in terms of guaranteeing maternal leave or closing the wage gap. In his own words, “The pay gap has virtually nothing to do with gender discrimination. Sorry, feminists. Hate to break this good news to you.” Miller is a supporter of outdated and restrictive gender roles, however. He once wrote, “I simply wouldn’t feel comfortable hiring a full-time male babysitter or driving down the street and seeing a group of women carrying heavy steel pillars to a construction site.”

To appoint someone who has been so vocally misogynistic in the past and who has a warped understanding of women’s issues is to make light of the plight of women in this country. It is another indication from the Trump administration that women’s issues are of little to no importance in this White House. Sign the petition below to voice your opposition to Miller’s appointment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Trump,

Your adviser Stephen Miller will soon consult with your daughter regarding women’s issues, including family leave and child care. As you’re no doubt aware, the United States remains one of the world’s only developed countries that does not guarantee paid maternal leave for its working mothers. In addition, the wage gap between men and women in this country is well documented, persistent and problematic.

Mr. Miller not only denies the existence of the wage gap, but has also publicly voiced his opposition to legislation that would bring the U.S. closer to paying men and women equally. Like yourself, Miller sees no problem in voicing misogynistic opinions, and sees no issue with traditional gender roles that have been proven to be damaging to equality in this country.

To appoint a man to any position that involves discussing and addressing women’s issues is an affront to capable women within your administration and without, who, by nature of being women, understand these issues far better than Mr. Miller ever could. I urge you to reconsider this decision and allow women to take the lead on women’s issues.

Sincerely,
