Urge KFC to Stop Sourcing Paper from Indonesia’s Rainforests

Target: KFC and Yum! Brand Inc.
Goal: Stop purchasing paper from Indonesian rainforests to make packaging materials.

Research by Greenpeace International has discovered that KFC and its parent company Yum! Brand Inc. sources paper for its packaging materials from Indonesia’s rainforests. Tell KFC to stop driving rainforest destruction and implement environmentally sustainable purchasing policies.

The research conducted by Greenpeace Experts shows that KFC purchases paper from Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), a company that continues to rely on rainforest clearance for resource extraction in countries such as Indonesia. This highly destructive activity has devastating consequences for the environment, as rainforests are key defenders against climate change, and are vital habitat for various protected species, including the critically endangered Sumatran tiger.

Many other international food companies have sustainability policies that exclude the purchase of materials linked to rainforest destruction. KFC and Yum!, however, have no such policies. Instead, they consistently fail to even answer questions about the source of many of their products. Now, Greenpeace has traced KFC products such as cups, food boxes and napkins back to APP, exposing KFC’s extremely irresponsible use of their purchasing power.

Sign the petition below to demand that KFC stop driving rainforest destruction by immediately discontinuing the purchase of paper from Asia Pulp and Paper and implementing environmentally conscious policies.

PETITION LETTER

Dear KFC and Yum! Brand Inc.,

Research by Greenpeace International has made known that KFC and its parent company Yum! Brand Inc. sources paper for its packaging materials from rainforests. Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) is a company that continues to rely on rainforest clearance for resource extraction in countries such as Indonesia. This highly destructive activity has devastating consequences for the environment. If KFC and Yum! do not stop supporting APP, your business will face devastating consequences as well.

Many other international food companies have sustainability policies that exclude the purchase of materials linked to rainforest destruction. Now, Greenpeace has traced KFC products such as cups, food boxes and napkins back to APP, exposing KFC’s extremely irresponsible use of their purchasing power.

As a customer that cares deeply for the environment, I demand that KFC and Yum! stop driving rainforest destruction by immediately discontinuing the purchase of paper from Asia Pulp and Paper and implementing environmentally conscious policies.

Sincerely,
