Close Rotating Restaurant That Crushed Boy

Target: George Reed, manager of the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, Atlanta

Goal: Shut down the rotating Sun Dial restaurant until the safety of children can be ensured.

A 5-year-old boy was crushed to death in a rotating restaurant atop a round tower in Atlanta, meant to give patrons a panoramic view of the city. Police say he was trapped in the small space between the wall and one of the tables as the floor rotated. The floor’s mechanism stopped the rotation after the boy was caught and he was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The Sun Dial restaurant is an attraction on top of the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. The child and his family were visiting from North Carolina when he was killed. The manager made a statement offering his condolences to the family, but the restaurant was only closed for two days following the boy’s death. This is unacceptable and dangerous for other children who could suffer the same fate. Sign below to demand the restaurant be closed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Reed,

Following the tragic death of a five-year-old boy at the rotating Sun Dial restaurant, it is clear that the structure of the restaurant is dangerous and it should not remain open while this risk remains unaddressed.

The child was caught between the wall and a table as the restaurant’s floor rotated, and although the rotation stopped when he was trapped, the boy died of his injuries. I urge you to close the Sun Dial restaurant until it can be sure that a tragedy like this will not happen again.

Sincerely,

I will not sign. The restaurant should not be closed due to parents neglect of their child. They should have been watching the child and he should have been sitting in a chair not wandwring around. Many eyewitnesses said the child was unsupervised

The Sundial restaurant should be shut down & the owner held liable. And whoever designed the restaurant. And the inspectors. All are morons. Not the parents!! The Seattle Space Needle has a rotating restaurant & so far as I know, no one has died there. I have been in that restaurant & never noticed the mechanism or gap in the floor. When I think of the Sundial, I imagine the floor is similar to that of a MerryGoRound. It is the Sundials failure as a safe structure that killed the poor kid. Leave the parents alone!
