Urge KFC to Use Environmentally Friendly Paper Products

Target: KFC

Goal: Stop purchasing Asian Pulp and Paper’s environmentally degrading paper products.

KFC’s paper products are supplied by Asian Pulp and Paper—a paper company infamous for illegally manufacturing timber from Indonesian rainforests. Asian Pulp and Paper is one of the largest pulp and paper companies worldwide, and has a controversial history due to illegal logging practices and financial negligence.

Indonesia’s rainforests have been dwindling for years at the hands of logging and palm oil operations. Pollution, extinction of species, species endangerment, and soil erosion are all effects caused by deforestation. So when KFC buys paper products such as napkins from Asian Pulp and Paper, the colonel helps support the devastation of a precious and vulnerable tropical habitat.

Endangered animals in Indonesia’s rainforest include the Sumatran tiger, the orangutan, and Sumatran and Javan rhinos. KFC’s chicken is wrapped in paper that supports the endangerment of these animals through poor logging practices, impacting the environment on a global scale. Over sixty companies have already ended their contracts with Asian Pulp and Paper. It’s time KFC stops incorporating immoral and environmentally destructive food packing into their meals.

Tell KFC to stop buying paper products from Asian Pulp and Paper. KFC should buy from an environmentally sound paper company, because chicken should not come with a side of illegal deforestation.

PETITION LETTER

Dear KFC,

Please stop buying paper products from Asian Pulp and Paper, as they are well-known for illegal logging practices across Indonesia’s rainforests. Asian Pulp and Paper contributes to the trend of illegal deforestation, causing rainforests and their ecosystems to be swept away at a massive rate.

Buying paper products from Asian Pulp and Paper ensures you are furthering the endangerment of the Sumatran tiger, causing water pollution, and degrading forest soil. There are many food packaging options, and I urge you to switch to a paper distributor that does not destroy rainforests in the name of napkins.

Consumers do not want to wrap their chicken and wipe their hands with paper products that strip the Indonesian rainforests of their trees and ecosystem. Asian Pulp and Paper’s timber has no place near KFC’s food. Switch your paper supplier immediately to stop supporting the devastation of an already disappearing rainforest.

Sincerely,

  1. As usual GP only report half the story. APP is not known for Illegal deforestation. Everything it does is legal under Indonesian law. Comapnies as big as AP and APRIL would go bust if they were caught illegally logging. What is needed is a change in Indonesian law not unfounded accusations by GP. The last of which in the case of Ramin was dispproved by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry. I agree logging needs to be prevented but it needs to be at the government level.
