Justice for Student Murdered in Pakistan for “Blasphemy”

Target: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan

Goal: Punish those responsible for the brutal murder of a Pakistan student over alleged “blasphemy.”

A student at a university in Pakistan was killed by a mob of his peers for being accused of blasphemy against Islam. The mob seems to have been acting on rumors regarding “offensive” content posted on Facebook by the victim, Mashal Khan. According to a senior police official, he was “badly tortured after being shot at a close range… He was beaten with sticks, bricks and hands.”

An official at the university said that many of Mr. Khan’s fellow students disliked him because of his liberal and secular views, in a country where blasphemy is an “unpardonable offense” that can be met with the death penalty. Critics of these laws say that they are often used to oppress minorities. Hundreds were involved in this horrific incident, which must not be allowed to stand. Sign below to demand justice for a student who was brutally murdered simply for expressing ideas that differed from those of his peers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Sharif,

The incident at Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan where a student was shot and beaten to death with planks by his fellow students is horrible and unacceptable. The masses who killed Mashal Khan were allegedly acting solely on rumors regarding “blasphemous” Facebook content. Mr. Khan did not deserve to die the way he did.

Murder is no way to respond to the expression of different ideas. Mr. Khan was never proven to have done anything wrong at all, and yet he was brutally murdered by a mob. Those responsible must be held accountable for their actions. I urge you to punish the people responsible and give Mr. Khan the justice he deserves.

Sincerely,
