Success: Spicer Apologizes for Claiming Hitler Didn’t Use Chemical Weapons

Target: Press Secretary Sean Spicer

Goal: Approve of the necessary apology needed after Spicer’s statement that Hitler did not use chemical weapons in the Holocaust.

Press Secretary Sean Spicer commented that Adolf Hitler “didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” while addressing chemical attacks in Syria. This statement resulted in public outcry, like this petition on ForceChange, demanding an apology and his resignation. He has at least obliged the public and other elected officials by issuing an apology for his false and offensive statement.

Spicer said, “Frankly, I mistakenly used an inappropriate and insensitive reference to the Holocaust, to which there is frankly no comparison. Obviously, that is not what I was intending to do. And I — especially during this week [Passover] — regret using that term and apologize and hope that we can focus on the president’s decisive action that he took to make sure that we deal with the situation in Syria.”

The implication that chemical weapons were not used during the Holocaust – when millions were actually gassed to death in concentration camps – is akin to Holocaust denial, which is not only insensitive but actively harmful to Jewish people whose culture and families were forever altered by genocide. Sign below to express to Press Secretary Spicer that his apology was not only necessary but was the least he could do.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Press Secretary Spicer,

Your statement that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons during the Holocaust was not only offensive but actively harmful. Millions of people were murdered in gas chambers during the Holocaust and to deny that is akin to saying that the Holocaust did not happen at all.

The people whose families, lives and culture that were forever altered by those events, including millions of Germans who were Hitler’s own people, were owed an apology for this comment. The apology you gave on Fox News was the least you could have done, but I support this necessary first step.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
