Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States
Goal: Protect the National Domestic Violence Hotline from budget cuts.
President Trump has announced an 18 percent cut to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which will negatively impact the National Domestic Violence Hotline. As it stands, at least 10 to 20 percent of the hotline’s budget could disappear, leaving over 200,000 calls from victims and witnesses unattended and many victims helpless and alone.
We cannot allow this to happen. Domestic violence runs rampant in society, even when we have many laws against it. The NDVH has been in business since 1996, helping millions of victims get the help and support they need, plus providing the same for abusers who call in admitting their crimes and wish to seek help and correct their behavior. This hotline has done wonders for the domestic abuse problem, filling in holes that the law cannot, guiding victims to safety and abusers to stop their actions. Even the slightest budget cut is not okay.
We need to ensure that victims of domestic abuse can still get all the help and support they desperately need, and that abusers have somewhere to turn to when they realize the error of their ways and wish to atone for their crimes and seek help. Sign this petition to protect the funding for this vital service.
Dear Mr. President,
Your proposed budget cuts to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will severely cripple the National Domestic Violence Hotline, one of the most vital services available for helping the victims of domestic abuse and for the abusers who wish to seek help and atone for their crimes. In a society where domestic abuse of all kinds runs rampant, this is unacceptable.
Over 10 million Americans fall victim to domestic violence every year, and many of them rely on the vital services of the Department of Health and Human Services. Even the slightest budget cut could leave thousands of calls unattended and many victims helpless. Denying victims and even abusers the help they need is a step backward — one we must not take. Do not cut funding for the Department of Health and Human Services.
