Protect LGBTQ Soldiers From Bigoted Army Secretary Nominee

Target: Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader

Goal: Reject Donald Trump’s anti-LGBTQ pick for Army Secretary.

Donald Trump has chosen a staunch anti-LGBTQ rights figure as his administration’s Army Secretary, putting the rights of LGBTQ service members at severe risk. Mark Green, a state senator from Tennessee and a former officer in the U.S. Army, was chosen to replace Eric Fanning in the important military position.

Green has spoken out against marriage equality and has sponsored discrimination laws in his home state that prevented the government from punishing a company even if it refused to implement LGBTQ protections. LGBTQ advocates fear that putting a man with such beliefs in power will enable “don’t ask, don’t tell” to once against work its way into the military, leading to the harassment and shame of the LGBTQ individuals who have chosen to protect our country.

Green must not be given a leadership role in the army. For the Senate to confirm him would be to turn their backs on the LGBTQ soldiers who have risked their lives for Americans. Sign the petition and demand that the Senate reject Trump’s pick.

Dear Senator Schumer,

Donald Trump has chosen Mark Green as Army Secretary, putting the rights of our nation’s LGBTQ service members at risk. Green’s career as an army officer has been built upon an anti-LGBTQ platform: he’s spoken out against marriage equality, workplace protections, and transgender rights.

To allow Green to take such a prominent role in the Army would be a betrayal to our LGBTQ soldiers who fear that “don’t ask, don’t tell” will once again become reality under Green. I ask that you reject his appointment and convince your fellow senators to do the same.
