Do Not Expand SeaWorld to China

Target: Wang Yonghong, President and Director of Zhonghong Zhuoye Group

Goal: Stop Zhonghong Zhuoye Group’s plans to expand SeaWorld into China.

SeaWorld’s newest shareholder, Zhonghong Zhuoye Group, a real estate and investment group based in China, has bought the rights to make new SeaWorlds in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. The addition of these parks would imprison even more animals and force them to do ridiculous tricks in front of loud crowds.

The animals trapped in SeaWorld are denied everything natural to them and face a variety of mental and physical hardships. Captivity often leads to shorter life spans, increased stress and injuries. Many of the animals have terrible dental problems due to them biting at the metal bars and concrete walls of their enclosures. In addition, China has virtually no animal welfare laws, which makes matters even worse for these animals. An animal trainer who has a reputation of allegedly abusing his animals has even raised concerns saying that “Chinese [marine parks] treat the mammals like commodities that they can throw away… They figure they can buy more if they can’t keep them alive.”

Sign this petition and tell the Zhonghong Zhuoye Group that concrete tanks are no place for wild animals. These animals should not be denied the life nature intended for mere entertainment.

Dear Mr. Yonghong,

Recently, your company bought a 21 percent stake in SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. and the rights to open more SeaWorlds in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. The animals imprisoned at SeaWorld do not belong in concrete cages. They belong in the open ocean as nature intended.

The animals trapped at SeaWorld face a variety of mental and physical hardships. Captivity often leads to shorter life spans, increased stress levels and other problems. Many of the animals at SeaWorld have severe dental damage due to their persistent biting and gnawing at the metal bars and concrete walls of their prison. In the wild, these animals will swim miles upon miles in a single day, but at SeaWord, the animals can only swim around in never-ending circles.

Please consider not opening new SeaWorlds in China. No animal should suffer for human entertainment. It is time to stop profiting off the exploitation of animals.

    They should not be expanding the should be shutting down. China is the worst country on the planet regarding animal welfare. Please this must not happen!

  2. Please don’t let this happen especially in China. They have no regard whatsoever for the lives of animals

  3. And how long until they decide that eating a killer whale will increase the size of their tiny dicks?

  4. I don’t support SeaWorld because, SeaWorld Sucks!

  5. Margaret Melnick says:

    Chinese don’t value animals anymore than Koreans do. I hate to think how these animals are treated. No wild animal should have to live in captivity. Not only DON’T EXPAND SEAWORLD but rehome those they already have to a sanctuary where they can live out their lives as they were meant to be lived.

  6. Damn-Merica exports not only war but animal cruelty, thriving on all the bad things.

  7. It has come to my attention that you are SeaWorld’s latest and most prevalent shareholder. Because of the power you hold, I am asking that you begin to refashion these parks in an entirely new way, that being without any animals whatsoever in any of the SeaWorld parks that you open. There is a vast amount of proof that shows that the aquatic animals imprisoned at the current parks are treated horrifically.

    Whether caught in the wild or born in captivity, all of the orcas at SeaWorld are restricted to austere concrete tanks, where some of them have languished for many years. The extreme deprivation and powerful stress of imprisonment cause them to assault each other, and chew on the metal gates and concrete corners of the tanks, which destroys their teeth and leads to unremitting infections. Plus, at least 36 orcas, more than 100 other dolphins and whales, and countless other animals have died at the company’s parks.

    Some other examples of SeaWorld’s maltreatment of animals are:
    1. Splitting up the mothers and their children;
    2. Placing orcas in groups that are incompatible with each other;
    3. Keeping animals for life at SeaWorld and, as a result, they often become, among other things, aggressive and self-destructive.

    A poll in the U.S. recently stated that close to 70 percent of parents with children, which is the key demographic of SeaWorld, would be more likely to visit the parks if the orcas were moved to sanctuaries. As well, amongst the aforementioned visitors, 62 percent stated that they would be more likely to revisit the park if the orcas were removed.

    As I am sure you are aware, public approval as well as stock prices have been declining rapidly, but that does not need to remain that way. Places like SeaWorld no longer need live animals; they can now be substituted with virtual reality and state-of-the-art animatronic exhibits. It is time to change, and your company can be the first in the world and lead the way. Please consider this. Thank you.

    • Beautifully stated. Hopefully our arguments will not reach deaf ears. Unfortunately, China, Korea and other Asian nations torture and kill domestic animals in barbaric ways for consumption. They have total disregard for these creatures, which speaks volumes about their culture. They have festivals celebrating these consumptions, and the meat is not given to starving humans but eaten by people who pay. I avoid purchasing ANY products from these countries when able. I do not own anything made by Samsung or LG, for example. I refuse to eat Asian foods. And I will never spend my tourist dollars in any of those countries. Hitting the economic pocketbook may force them to pay attention. You cannot change a culture but you do not need to support their economy. Finally…I detest Seaworld. A leopard never loses its spots.

  8. Sherry Young says:

    Wang Yonghong, President and Director of Zhonghong Zhuoye Group… not open a Sea World in china; china are nothing but a bunch of EVIL HEARTLESS humans that abuse their people and animals…’s all about “MONEY” with china; not their people and/or animals….the world is watching you and china!

  9. christine warman says:

    Those backward animal killers have no rights to have anything, all they do is torture and kill, and would no doubt do the same to these poor giants of the ocean. They would slowly die in those filthy ponds they expect them to live in,and ignorant spectators no doubt would stand and watch them slowly die.

  10. Great ………. as if China hasn’t already abused enough of their animals. Yes, I’m being sarcastic !!! Rather then send China more animals to abuse, how ’bout we rescue all the animals already there before they are tortured for their heinous food supply ?!?!?!?!

  11. China = animal cruelty, a country of horror for animals. Skinning and boiling dogs and cats alive, keeping polar bears in tiny cages, bear bile, tigers tortured in farms, performing bears, exported Greyhounds – exported to China to die, elephants and rhinos poached for ivory. Hideous country with a total disregard for animal welfare.

  12. Boycott EVERYTHING from China everyone, Please.

  13. Daniela Bress says:

    What a bad joke, now that it’s getting harder for worthless human beings to make profit with suffering animals in Western countries – this scum is trying to carry its’ greed to China in order to take advantage of the common acceptance of animal cruelty, over there.

    Hey guys, there are also more and more Chinese people who are fighting against the cruelty and greed of their superstitious, uneducated and useless cousins, so leave the animals FINALLY alone and WORK for your unnecessary existence.

  15. China is the last country that should be involved with Seaworld with history of animal abuse.

  16. Lisa Zarafonetis says:

  17. China?? Where they DO the YULIN DOG MEAT FESTIVAL?? Where they are worse than WE ARE For ANIMAL CRUELTY & TORTURE & Treat their Animals like GARBAGE, actually worse?? Where they already have More than they CAN TAKE CARE OF IN PEOPLE, let alone an ANIMAL PARK?? We live in Florida, have for over 34+ Years, & We’ve Been DONE going to “SEAWORLD” For many years, some of our fam when they visit still go, once in a while, But it HAS CHANGED Ownership many times, & each time they HAVE become worse, Not Better. Sorry but TRUTH. SO for ONE to OPEN IN CHINA?? That would be like opening up a DISNEY WORLD IN Africa or the Middle East..Same ridiculousness. More is NEEDED by HUMANS, let alone RELYING on them to be HUMANE TO ANIMALS in a PARK, again, there Are TOO MANY that LITERALLY, even HERE IN US WILL DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY, & GREED. AT Any EXPENSE, ANY COSTS..NEVER Good for those who NEED the HELP, like animals or poor people..We are NO BETTER, But CHINA WOULD BE EVEN WORSE.

  18. REMINDER : these beautiful animals are NOT stuffed animals — DO NOT treat them as such! — Due to the poor treatment & suffering of animals, we MUST wipe out SeaWorld — let’s begin in the US — even with American laws, the animals do NOT get proper protections (if they do, then that’s a different story) — such animals NEED to be in their natural environments — second, expanding SeaWorld into China is NOT a better idea — it’s probably worse — Again, these magnificent animals who suffer greatly in captivity MUST be transferred into their natural environments — REMINDER : they’re NOT stuffed animals — DO NOT treat them as such!
