Target: Channing D. Phillips, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia
Goal: Punish man accused of savagely beating a cat to death.
A man is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly beating a cat to death with a broom handle. Police were alerted to the situation when a neighbor called police, saying that they heard a commotion and saw the man hit the animal. The man, Sydney Stradford of Washington, D.C., admitted that he savagely struck the cat when he found it sitting in his chair. The cat then ran away and collapsed in a parking lot, but the man reportedly followed the cat and continued to hit it until it was dead.
A necropsy revealed the true suffering of the brown and white cat, named Tommy. He suffered blunt force trauma, which was named as the official cause of death. Tommy also suffered a broken leg, a torn spleen, liver damage, and several internal hemorrhages. According to Dan D’Eramo, a senior law enforcement official with rights group Humane Rescue Alliance, the cat’s death was a direct result of Mr. Stradford’s alleged “callous disregard for life.”
This act shocked the neighborhood, making pet owners feel uneasy about allowing their pets outside. In order to ensure that no more animals are harmed, it’s imperative that Mr. Stradfors is punished harshly, if he is found guilty. Sign below to ask the prosecutor to seek the maximum possible penalty in this case.
