Stop Trump’s Rollback of Climate Change Action

Target: Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Oppose Donald Trump’s executive order that decreases enforcement of climate change regulations.

Donald Trump has signed an executive order that significantly curbs federal enforcement of climate change regulations and undoes progress made by Barack Obama in addressing global warming. Trump has cited “government overreach” as a reason for the new order and insists that American jobs be given priority over the dangers of climate change.

The order shifts the Environmental Protection Agency’s focus more strongly toward clean air and water, but also calls for a review of the Clean Power Plan, and cancels a moratorium on coal mining on federal land. It also asks federal agencies to identify potential obstacles on the way to American energy independence.

Trump’s order effectively undoes six of former President Obama’s executive orders that regulated carbon emissions in the United States and contributed to curbing the rate and effects of climate change. While American jobs and energy independence are important, this administration’s reluctance to confront the reality of climate change sets a dangerous precedent for the future of the environment.

Dear Senator McConnell,

Donald Trump has signed an executive order that significantly curtails federal enforcement of important climate change regulations and rescinds six of Barack Obama’s executive orders geared toward reducing carbon emissions and curbing America’s contribution to global warming. Trump has claimed that American jobs and the opportunity for energy independence should take precedence over the reality of climate change.

This executive order limits the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to effectively protect the environment, and limits the United States of America’s ability to cooperate with global efforts to reverse the devastating effects of climate change. Trump has called for a review of the Clean Power Plan, allowed for coal mining on federal land, and asked that federal agencies weed out potential obstacles to energy independence.

This order does far more harm than good and is the second attack made by the Trump administration on the Environmental Protection Agency in the short time since Trump took office. I urge you and the rest of the United States Senate to review and oppose the order. The effects of climate change are real and grow more concerning with each day, and this administration’s  prioritzing coal mining and oil drilling over the destruction of the environment is neither in good conscience nor in the best interest of the American people.

If Trump will so highly try to “fly” over the values of the whole Earth, then very soon he can break his “nimbus”. In fact – he is nobody .. he is just one of the small grains of sand and has no right to destroy what he does not belong. The government of the country turned out to be in the hands of an ordinary merchant, who has nothing sacred (((
