Target: Dr. Qamar Arfeen, Chairman of the Board for Harbor Foundation
Goal: Stop Harbor Foundation’s two butterfly releases.
Hospice care group Harbor Foundation has planned butterfly releases in a couple of its locations. While butterfly releases may seem beautiful and serene, they are anything but.
The butterflies are typically taken from the wild or bred in very unnatural settings. Then, the butterflies are sent through the postal service in envelopes or packages. The ordeal can take quite some time depending on how far the animals are being shipped. Butterflies often die from exposure or from being crushed. Once released, many of the butterflies struggle to fly or simply fall to the ground.
Sign this petition to demand Harbor Foundation cancel its butterfly releases and find a cruelty-free alternative.
Dear Dr. Arfeen,
The Harbor Foundation is planning butterfly releases in Louisiana and Texas. While butterfly releases seem beautiful and natural, they are anything but.
The butterflies used for these releases are typically taken from the wild or bred in very unnatural conditions. Then, the butterflies are sent through the mail via envelopes and packages, which can take quite some time. Many of the butterflies do not survive the ordeal and die from being crushed or from exposure. Then, once released, many of the butterflies fall right to the ground or struggle to fly. In addition to all of this cruelty, the butterflies are typically non-native animals and can throw off the local area’s ecosystem by spreading disease. Many die soon after the release due to the unfamiliar and unfit surroundings.
Please consider canceling your butterfly releases. There are many other cruelty-free alternatives available that do not support inhumane practices and death.
