Reject Abortion Bill From Lawmaker Who Called Rape ‘God’s Will’

Target: Mary Fallin, Governor of Oklahoma

Goal: Ensure George Faught’s anti-abortion bill is not passed into law.

Abortions could soon be banned in Oklahoma, even in the case of fetal abnormalities, including Down syndrome or other genetic outliers, should a bill recently passed by the Oklahoma House of Representatives make it into state law. The bill, authored by Representative George Faught, provides no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

When Faught was fielding questions about about the bill, he was asked about the lack of exceptions. Asked if he thought rape was part of the will of God, Faught answered, “Well, you know, if you read the Bible, there’s actually a couple circumstances where that happened, and the Lord uses all circumstances. I mean, you can go down that path, but it’s a reality, unfortunately.”

Faught later added, “Life, no matter how it is conceived, is valuable and something to be protected. Let me be clear, God never approves of rape or incest. However, even in the worst circumstances, God can bring beauty from ashes.” The suggestion that a pregnancy resulting from rape could be considered an act of divine beauty is wildly offensive both to those who have suffered sexual assault and to the concept of separation of church and state. Sign the petition below to demand that Governor Mary Fallin vetoes this bill if it makes it to her desk.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Fallin,

This week, the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill that bans abortion in the case of fetal abnormalities. The bill does not, unlike other anti-abortion legislation, allow for exceptions in the case of incest or rape. Representative George Faught, who introduced the bill, cited religious beliefs both as the impetus for the bill and for its lack of exceptions.

When asked whether he thought rape was considered God’s will, Faught replied that “if you read the Bible, there’s actually a couple circumstances where that happened, and the Lord uses all circumstances.” The suggestion that there is a divine directive responsible for instances of sexual assault, and that therefore women should not be allowed to terminate pregnancies resulting from such, is both a violation of the separation of church and state and a gross misunderstanding of the reality of rape.

I urge you to vote against this no-exceptions bill. While Representative Faught is entitled to his religious beliefs, his ideas about God’s will have no rightful place in any legal proceedings, least of all legislation that further chips away at a woman’s right to choose what happens to her body. I ask that you respect the separation of church and state with your vote.

Sincerely,

This ignorant man should be a victim of abuse and then he would feel the pain that the real victims have! Then I do not think that he would feel that it was (god,s) will !

  2. Frankly and simply. I hope he rots in Hell!

  3. How can a God fearing Christian say this is God’s will. More likely Satan’s will. I say fire his assistant and make him apologize although an apology from a loser like that is meaningless.

  4. Of course a man comes up with these ideas. A woman must be able to decide what is best for her.

  5. Being against abortion myself, I am appalled at what this Representative has said about his reasons for opposing abortion. I assure people that he does not speak for many pro-lifers, including myself. I am not religious, and “god” is not in the picture as a reason for why I oppose abortion.

  6. It is mans will to rape or assault a woman. Incest, rape, and assault are all heinous and should carry harsh penalties. This man is a fool and has no business in any leadership role. The creator does not condone any such abuses on any creature.

Is he for real? Idiot, if there ever was one.

Such blatant ignorance from such a mentality is nothing more than a load of Fresh Bullshit!!!! Sick and tired of Republican Clueless Notion of what “Christian” even is!!!! Stop it NOW!!!
