Man Accused of Keeping Nearly 100 Animals in Filth–Demand Justice

Target: Patrine Clohessy, Assistant Crown Solicitor, Queensland, Australia

Goal: Seek the maximum punishment under the law for a man facing 215 charges of animal cruelty.

An Australian man is facing a rash of animal cruelty charges after investigators found over 80 dogs and 10 cats living in conditions that shook them to the core. Haris Ljuhar is facing 215 counts of animal cruelty, the most ever brought against one person by the Australian Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). The animals were allegedly malnourished and kept in filthy conditions, surrounded by feces and the corpses of other animals.

Eighty-one dogs and puppies, mostly American Stafforshire Bull Terriers, were removed from the home alongside 10 cats. Many of the animals were starved to the point of malnutrition and visible emaciation, per reports. Some were kept in small spaces next to the corpses of other animals, and others were reportedly tethered among piles decomposing animals. Some of the animals also reportedly suffered severe injuries that required veterinary intervention. Unsurprisingly, it seems the animals were left to suffer without any medical attention.

According to RSPCA Queensland Chief Inspector Daniel Young, “the conditions the dogs and cats were being kept in were very disturbing.” He also alleges in the investigation that the animals were left without adequate food, water, or shelter. More than 50 of the animals have so far been successfully rehabilitated and adopted. The RSPCA spent in excess of $100,000 to provide much-needed medical care, housing, and rehabilitation for the rescued animals.

This type of abuse is extremely troubling as it apparently shows a blatant disregard for the suffering of so many animals. In order to ensure that these creatures receive justice, it’s imperative that anyone found responsible is punished harshly. Sign the petition below to ask the prosecutor to seek the maximum possible punishment under law for Ljuhar, if he is found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mrs. Clohessy,

A Queensland man is facing 215 charges of animal cruelty for the alleged severe neglect of over 80 dogs and 10 cats. The dogs were reportedly found malnourished, suffering from severe injuries, and being forced to live among the decomposing corpses of other animals.

This type of neglect is barbaric and inexcusable. In order to ensure no more animals are harmed by this man, it’s important that he is punished harshly. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the maximum possible punishment for this man as well as a lifetime ban on animal ownership.

Sincerely,
