Do Not Open Exploitative Tiger Zoo

Target: Sunan Arunnopparat, Director General of Department of National Parks in Thailand

Goal: Stop the opening of a new zoo similar to Tiger Temple, which was shut down last year for alleged abuse.

Last year, the zoo Tiger Temple in Thailand underwent a raid after being exposed for alleged abuse and wildlife trafficking. Over 100 tigers were seized by the government, moved to safety and the location was shut down.

Now, only a few months later, a temple offshoot business has plans to soon open a new zoo of animal enclosures right next to the former monastery. This new zoo could house up to 500 tigers.

When Tiger Temple was raided last year, tigers were found stuffed in freezers with other animal body parts. In addition, 20 baby tigers were found floating in jars of formaldehyde. Other investigations reveal the terrible living conditions the tigers endured before even being killed.

The new zoo, apparently called Golden Temple, is planning to open right next to the old location. This is obviously a red flag and has raised serious concern from many animal welfare charities. According to World Animal Protection, Golden Temple has already been issued a provisional zoo license, but not a full one. The full license can be issued if Golden Temple adheres to certain welfare conditions, but those conditions do not prevent the breeding of tigers or prohibit tourists from interacting with them. Sign the petition below to make sure a full license is not issued and that Golden Temple is not permitted to open.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director General Sunan Arunnopparat,

The planned opening of Golden Temple right next to the old Tiger Temple location should be of serious concern to you after the tragedy that occurred there just last year.

The raid on Tiger Temple revealed tigers stuffed in freezers and kept in jars of formaldehyde. The government seized over 100 tigers from the location and this new location is expected to be home to over 500. How are we supposed to believe that what happened before won’t happen again?

You have already issued them a provisional license, but we highly encourage to not go through with the full license and to consider what would happen if you do. You will basically be asking for the same tragedy to happen again.

There is no reason for this new location to open. Tigers deserve to live happily in the wild, and after the tragic raid that occurred last year you must realize that too.

Please do not issue Golden Temple a full license and do not allow them to open.

Sincerely,

The only place that these majestic tigers belong is in the WILD or a reliable sanctuary!

  2. Opening this proposed zoo would only result in the same abuse, torture and deaths of tigers that occurred in the first one. This tragedy must not be allowed to happen. Leave tigers in the wild where they belong.

  3. NO OPENING OF A TIGER ZOO NOW.
