Target: Henry Lewis, Owner of Vantage Deluxe World Travel
Goal: Praise Vantage Deluxe World Travel for ending its support of elephant rides.
A popular, Boston-based travel company, Vantage Deluxe World Travel, has decided to stop offering customers elephant rides and has removed the activity from all travel itineraries. This is great news considering the elephants used for rides are often abused and exploited.
Elephants are incredibly social and intelligent animals. When they are used for rides, they are often taken away from their families at a very young age. In order to be trained for the tourism trade, young elephants are bound so tightly that they cannot move and beaten into submission with sharp tools. In Southeast Asia, almost half of the elephants die during this cruel training. The ones who survive are forced to give endless rides to ignorant tourists until their owners decide they are more burdensome than lucrative.
Sign this petition to praise Vantage Deluxe World Travel for making the compassionate choice to end its support of elephant rides.
Dear Mr. Lewis,
Recently, Vantage Deluxe World Travel decided to no longer offer elephant rides to its customers and has taken the activity out of all travel itineraries. You have now joined Costco Travel, TripAdvisor, Alexander+Roberts and Tauck in the fight against cruel elephant rides.
Captivity is extremely detrimental to elephants’ mental and physical health, and the common training techniques used for elephant rides only make matters worse. The training typically involves the animals being taken away from their mothers at very young ages, tethered so tightly they cannot move, and abused with sharp instruments. In Southeast Asia, almost half the elephants die during this gruesome training period. Those who survive are forced to give rides until their bodies give out on them.
Thank you for making the compassionate choice to end the support of this cruel activity. I can only hope more travel agencies follow in your footsteps.
