Save Giraffes From Impending Extinction

Target: Mahamadou Issoufou, President of Niger

Goal: Protect the endangered West African Giraffe from poachers and human conflict.

The West African Giraffe faces extinction while its population remains unprotected in the Parc W-Niger area. These gentle giants once roamed from Senegal to Cameroon but, due to poaching and human conflict, they are now only found in a small area of Niger approximately 60km from the capital. This park location is known as a transitional zone, which means it has no formal protection like the rest of the park and leaves the giraffes unprotected from poachers and human expansion.

There are an estimated 400 West African Giraffes remaining in the wild, and they have been on the IUNC Red list since 2008. Habitat encroachment and poaching are two of the threats facing the giraffe population. Habitat conflict is occurring due to the dwindling number of trees which both humans and giraffes heavily rely upon. While there are conservation groups doing their best to protect the remaining giraffe populations, there can be no real progress while the giraffes remain in an unprotected zone.

The Parc W-Niger location is one of the natural sites in the African World Heritage Site organization which seeks to protect Africa’s natural and cultural heritage. Giraffes are a natural treasure of Africa and should be protected in their dwindling habitat. Without formal protection in this area of Niger, the West African Giraffe will become extinct.

By signing the petition below, you will be helping the West African Giraffe avoid extinction by urging the Niger government to support efforts to give these gentle giraffes the protection they need.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Issoufou,

The lack of formal protection for the West African Giraffe in the Parc W-Niger area must be remedied. The West African Giraffe has been facing dwindling populations and has been red listed since 2008 due to poaching and conflict with humans. These herds have lost much of their natural habitat which used to range from Senegal to Cameroon. Parc W-Niger may be their last available habitat before they are forced into extinction. The West African Giraffe is a gentle giant and the tallest land animal; it would be a huge tragedy to lose such an iconic mammal of Africa, especially in one of Africa’s natural sites.

I urge you to support providing the West African Giraffe population of Parc W-Niger with protections. Please ensure that these iconic creatures are protected from extinction.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  6. Cecilia Salgado says:

    Only 400!!! Terrible!

  7. Dear God what has happened to the so called human race that has turned so many into barbaric greedy blood thirsty fuckwit arsewipes.

    • I fully agree with your comment Ann. The so called human species has turned so many into barbaric greedy blood thirsty arsewipes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Kill them all.

  8. You dear President, will have always a name in the history books, guess what for.

  9. The government of niger really must get their act together and give protection to these iconic creatures who are in peril of becoming extinct. Thanks to you. There will always be moronic, blood thirsty low lifes who get their thrill out of killing beautiful creatures. No, I don’t understand their mindset either, and you, the government are the only body with the power to stop this wanton destruction. Do it now-PLEASE!

  10. Poaching is a big factor, yet giraffes are also a food source for many local tribes who share meat with their families.

  11. Do whatever it takes to protect these animals from humans, the most useless and worst species on the planet. When will so-called leaders and do-gooders start addressing the cause of most famines, pandemic disease and even some wars which is human over-population? I made the choice in high school to not have kids and have never regretted it. How about educating and PROVIDING the Nigerians with birth control? Fewer people world wide, including wealthy countries, would help our deteriorating planet. Just because parents can financially provide for a kid does not mean the planet will be able to provide food, air and water.

    • ‘provide the nigerians with birth control’……don’t make it into a contrived ‘enlightened west v.s backward non-west’ problem……lots of things at play here, including western tourist poaching, corrupt government officials, greedy landowners who force landless people to compete against wildlife for resources, etc……simplistic to mark this situation as something resolvable by birth control access…..it also panders to stereotypes.

  12. Tina shurtleff says:

Africa needs to step up and protect their wildlife or we can stop giving them our tourist dollars. Tourism supports Africs not trophy hunting. Poachers should be killed if they are caught. More rangers to protect these endangered animals

  13. cheryl gausel says:

For Gods sake we (humans) are here to protect the precious animals that walk the earth with us – we have the ability to do this – but greed stands in the way! Time to get tough – poachers should be shot on the spot and this fact made well known and advertised – especially to ‘tourists’ !

  14. Denise Devereux says:

What a disgraceful world we live in. The progress of a country can be judged by how its animals are treated. Man himself will not find peace in this world or the next unless he shows compassion to all living things. Why were these poor animals born on this continent where they are not cherished. To the Enablers and rich Westeners who kill these animals for trophies your time is coming to an end. You have a target on your back. Satan is waiting for you where you will Burn in the fires of Hell and receive no Mercy and your Pain will be forever constant!
WAKE UP AFRICA YOU ARE BEING EXPLOITED BY RICH WESTENERS WHO WILL BE HAPPY TO WIPE THESE ANIMALS OUT AND TAKE FROM YOU!

  15. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of Niger

Protect the endangered West African Giraffe from poachers and human conflict.

The atrocities being committed against the wildlife in Africa is an abomination and causing the extinction of the precious Wildlife.

The poachers and hunters who murder these precious sentient beings should all be put to death. These money hungry greedy bastards do not deserve to live on this Planet earth.
Eradication of these animal murderers is a must. The precious and helpless Wildlife will have a chance to survive without the threat of these animal murdering money hungry greedy monsters.

  16. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of Niger

Legislate a law against those West African Giraffe slaughterers poachers.

Protect the endangered West African Giraffe from poachers and human conflict.

  17. Something proactive MUST be done to address this brutality — ELIMINATE THE POACHERS — THIS SHOULD BE LAW!

IF THEY DON’T OBEY THE LAW, THE POACHERS MUST BE DESTROYED!

THIS LAW MUST BE ENFORCED — CREATING ARMIES OF PROFESSIONAL WARRIORS WITH PROPER WEAPONRY AND SENDING THEM OUT INTO THE FIELD READY TO DEAL WITH POACHERS — POACHERS SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND JAILED — IF POACHERS REFUSE TO COMPLY, THEN THEY MUST BE READY TO FACE THE GUN BARREL!

Otherwise, these sadistic, unconscionable psycho-poachers will continue their horror!

  18. Lisa Zarafonetis Lisa Zarafonetis says:

    I L❤️VE Giraffes, they’re so tegal & beautiful❗Just leave them alone❗😠
    Signed & shared 😡

  19. Marilyn Glasgow says:

There are so damn many humans on this earth, that the animals no longer have any place to stand. They are defenceless in the face of this onslaught and cannot compete with greedy, selfish humans. This is a disgrace. By the time Africa is done allowing this poaching and encroachment, there will be no animals left in that country. Shame forever on everyone involved in this desecration. The day will come when they regret what they have done.
