Don’t Send More People to Guantanamo Bay Torture Prison

Target: Ryan Zinke, Secretary Interior for Trump Administration

Goal: Don’t send Islamic State detainees to Guantanamo Bay prison.

The Trump administration plans to send Islamic State detainees to the Guantanamo Bay prison, according to the administration officials and a draft executive order obtained by The New York Times. The draft instructs Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to detain anyone who’s suspected of being a member of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces, including individuals and networks associated with the Islamic State.

Legal scholars and national security officials have all warned that doing so would make U.S. forces a target for extremist groups overseas. Guantanamo Bay has become infamous for unconstitutionally holding detainees without charges or trials. This is a violation of international human rights that will continue to subject humans to torture and put U.S. forces at risk unless we take action. Please include your signature in the petition below to demand that this executive order be rejected and that no more detainees be sent to this place of torment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Zinke,

It has been brought to our attention that the Trump administration has drafted an executive order that would place more people in Guantanamo Bay. The order requires anyone suspected of being a member of Al Qaeda, Taliban, and associated forces, including individuals and networks associated with ISIS, to be detained.

Inmates at Guantanamo Bay, many of them held unconstitutionally, without charges or a trial, are often subjected to extreme methods of torture. Despite the international human rights violations that are occurring there, national security officers have already warned that adding more detainees will make the U.S. forces a bigger target by extremist groups. We, the undersigned, demand that this executive order be discarded and no more detainees be sent to this torture prison.

Sincerely,

  1. Trump’s vision of a ‘great’ America is looking more terrifying all the time. He believes torture ‘works’. It doesn’t work. What it does is make people confess to any crimes they want them to confess to. If they capture a suspected terrorist, and torture him/her, you can bet that after enough time being tortured by sadistic creeps, they will admit to anything.
Torture is an atrocity, and Trump sending more people to Guantanamo Bay to be tortured is likewise an atrocity.
