Target: Jane Kleeb, Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party
Goal: Tell Nebraska senators to prevent Dr. Thomas Williams from becoming the state’s chief medical officer.
The man slated to become Nebraska’s next chief medical officer is a vocal opponent of cannabis in all its forms. After a new bill was introduced that would put all FDA-approved cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive compound in cannabis, products under a Schedule V classification, making it legal, Dr. Thomas Williams wrote a letter to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Resources asking that the legislation be halted. He believes the bill would cause an increase in abuse, but the compound in question does not cause “high” effects and is dominantly used to aid children with seizure disorders.
It is obvious that Williams does not have the proper medical knowledge to serve as Nebraska’s chief medical officer. Medical cannabis activists are urging Nebraska senators to prevent this man from officially taking the job due to his opposition to CBD. Please sign this petition asking the state’s Democratic Party Chair, Jane Kleeb, to influence state senators to vote against Williams.
Dear Ms. Kleeb,
I am writing to urge you to use your influence to get senators in your state to block Dr. Thomas Williams from becoming the next chief medical officer. Though one Nebraska senator is pushing for a bill that would allow children with seizure disorders to legally use CBD oil to lessen their symptoms, Williams has urged the state to block these efforts.
CBD is the non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Williams believes that people will abuse this substance, even though it has no addictive or habit-forming traits. Obviously, this man does not have the proper medical knowledge to hold the position of chief medical officer. I urge you to demand that Nebraska state senators vote against Williams.
