Target: Speaker of the House Paul Ryan
Goal: Call for the resignation of Attorney General Sessions in light of evidence of his perjury before Senate members.
Justice Department officials revealed that, despite what he said during his confirmation hearings for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions met with the Russian envoy twice last year. Currently, he is not only Attorney General, but is also leading the investigation into Russia’s alleged role in the presidential election. This is a blatant conflict of interest, and along with the fact that he lied under oath to obtain his position in the first place, it is clear that this man is absolutely unfit to be Attorney General.
The meetings that Sessions neglected to mention were with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, while Sessions was still a state senator, as well as a senior member of the highly influential Armed Services Committee. However, at the time of these meetings he was already playing a major role supporting the Trump campaign, which was in full swing, and acting as one of Trump’s top foreign policy advisers. This is likely the reason Russia would have been interested in cultivating a relationship with Sessions, according to the former head of Russia operations at the CIA.
During his confirmation hearing, however, he said that he was not aware of anyone affiliated with Trump having any communication with the Russian government during the campaign, and said that he himself “did not have communications with the Russians.” This is perjury, and cannot be allowed. Sign below to demand Sessions’ resignation.
Dear Speaker Ryan,
As a leading law enforcement official in our country, Attorney General Jeff Sessions had a responsibility to American citizens that he did not uphold. He broke the law himself in order to obtain that position, by lying under oath before members of the Senate.
By stating that he had no contact with the Russian government during the election, and that he knew of no Trump affiliates who had, when in reality he met twice with the Russian ambassador while serving as Trump’s “surrogate” and one of the top advisers on his campaign, he committed a crime. The American people must be able to trust their Attorney General, and he has revealed himself to be unworthy of that trust. I urge you to publicly call for Jeff Sessions’s resignation from the office of Attorney General.
