Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States
Goal: Don’t make severe budget cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The Trump administration has proposed severe budget cuts to the EPA that would eliminate a fifth of its staff and destroy dozens of programs. These cuts will allow the administration to focus more of its budget on the military and national security. Among the programs that would be cut are the climate change initiatives, funding for native Alaskan villages, and the budget for the Chesapeake Bay cleanup project, which would be slashed by over 50 million dollars.
This is not the future we should be aiming for in this country. Right now, our energy should be focused on doing what is best for people, wildlife and the environment of not just the United States but this whole planet. The Trump administration believes that fortifying the United States with strong soldiers and weapons is the best method of protection, but in the long run it will do us little good. We need clean air, water and fertile lands more than we need guns and tanks.
The EPA is too important to allow Trump and his administration to cripple it by revoking so much of its budget. The environment is too important. Sign this petition to demand that President Trump prioritize what is truly important by not cutting the EPA’s budget.
Dear President Trump,
The proposed budget cuts to the EPA are unacceptable. Your administration is taking funds for one of our country’s most important organizations in order to focus on what we do not need. The strength of our military and national security is important, but in the long run, it is nowhere near as vital to this country as clean air, clean water and fertile lands. In addition, the proposed cuts will eliminate a fifth of the staff, robbing many people of their jobs.
You must not allow these cuts to go through. You must think of what is really important, and right now the environment and the EPA matter more than strong soldiers with powerful weapons. Once again, we remind you of your promise to “make America great,” and the key to that is not destroying the protections of our environment.
