Success: Massive Ocean Cleanup Project Launched

Target: Boyan Slat, Founder of the Ocean Cleanup Project

Goal: Applaud that oceans are predicted to be rid of plastics within decades thanks to the Ocean Cleanup Project.

Nearly all of the larger pieces of plastic in the oceans could be cleaned up within decades by a recently funded project. The project gained recognition thanks in part to activists raising awareness and making their voices heard through petitions like ForceChange’s Get Plastics Out of the Earth’s Oceans. By signing this petition, you will applaud the founder of this project, who is helping to clean up our water and our planet.

Boyan Slat from the Netherlands is the creator of a system that could help clean up a majority of large plastics from the oceans in under 50 years. Nearly 270,000 tons, or 540,000,000 pounds, of trash floats on the surface of the earth’s oceans.

The Ocean Cleanup startup project involves a system that uses the ocean’s currents to create a self-cleaning method to catch large plastic that can be picked up by a vessel and brought to shore to be reused. Selling the plastic could help to financially sustain and expand the system to other parts of the world’s oceans.

Taking care of the environment, and especially our oceans, is vital to humanity. Applaud that this newly funded project will benefit sea creatures and ecosystems by getting rid of plastic.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Slat,

Environmental activists and scientists have let the world know about the urgent problem of plastics in our oceans. I am writing to applaud you for creating a system that will help to clean up large plastics from oceans around the world and additionally help reduce microplastics created from the disintegration of larger plastics.

Plastic in the ocean damages underwater ecosystems and the creatures who live in them and also creates a contaminated environment for humans. This system will provide a vital solution to help eliminate plastic and create a cleaner planet. I hope that others follow in your footsteps to create a brighter future for our world.

Sincerely,

    • Ross – thx. Any guess if they promote him to AA? Rizzo ha1s#&82n7;t seemed too quick to do that.I have a hunch that the Nats will not be too active this trading deadline; there really aren’t a lot of open spots for them to do something. But who knows?

  3. So glad to hear this good news! Sounds like a brilliant plan.
