Target: Xavier Becerra, California Attorney General
Goal: Punish the off-duty police officer who was shown on video allegedly attacking a teenager and then discharging his gun while holding the boy near his friends.
A video making the rounds on social media appears to show an off-duty Los Angeles police officer attacking a teenage boy and discharging his gun near a group of the boy’s friends. While the Los Angeles Police Department is launching an internal investigation, the officer has not been arrested and these internal investigations almost always go nowhere. Demand state officials investigate this case and punish the officer for his reckless behavior.
Although the reason for the confrontation has not been confirmed, there have been reports that it started because the officer was upset with the students walking on his lawn, or that the officer verbally assaulted the teenage boy’s female friend.
The video appears to show the plainclothes officer grabbing the boy and dragging him around his yard by his hoodie as the boy and a group of his friends beg the officer to let go. Some of the boy’s friends tried to grab him and pull him free, and that’s when the officer dragged the boy into some hedges and discharged his gun.
This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from a police officer who should be trained to deescalate situations, especially those involving kids. These actions, which could have been fatal, cannot go without consequences. Demand officials investigate the case and punish the officer for his dangerous conduct.
Dear Attorney General Becerra,
A video appears to show an off-duty police officer in Anaheim attacking a teenage boy, dragging him around, and then discharging his gun while holding the boy near his friends. Despite however this altercation may have started, there is no reason why the officer should have behaved like this and came so close to potentially killing or severely injuring teenagers.
Police brutality is a significant issue in this country and can’t go unaddressed, especially when involving kids. I demand you investigate this case and punish the officer to the full extent of the law.
