Apologize to Muslim Teacher Forced to Let His Class Enter the U.S. Without Him

Target: Robert C. Barber, Ambassador of the United States to Iceland

Goal: Publicly apologize to teacher who was forbidden entry to the United States because of his Muslim faith.

Despite the United States court system overturning Donald Trump’s “Muslim Ban,” British schoolteacher Juhel Miah was forbidden entry into the United States while boarding a flight to New York from Iceland with his students. His treatment was based solely on his Muslim faith. The United States government has yet to issue a statement or apology regarding the event.

Despite having a valid visa for travel to the United States, Miah was kept in an Icelandic hotel while his students were permitted to travel to the United States without him. Without any explanation on the part of airport security or the American government, Miah’s treatment is one of blatant discrimination that has been supported and influenced by the Trump administration.

Miah deserves an apology from the United States government. While it will never be enough to eliminate the pain and embarrassment the young teacher had to endure, an apology is a step that is necessary and needed, along with a promise that such an event will never again occur. Sign the petition and demand that the United States government issue a public apology to Miah.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ambassador Barber,

Recently, British schoolteacher Juhel Miah, a Muslim, was denied entry into the United States, despite the overturnment of Donald Trump’s “Muslim Ban” and despite the fact that he had valid paperwork for travel to the country. He was left in an airport in Iceland while his students had to move forward without him. He endured immense pain and embarrassment from such blatant discrimination and has received no reason as to why he could not enter the nation along with his students.

Mr. Miah deserves an explanation and an apology. The United States government must welcome those who wish to visit the nation, not close its borders and continue to rally feelings of fear and hatred in its own citizens. I demand that a public apology be issued to Mr. Miah.

Sincerely,
