Target: President Donald Trump
Goal: Do not undo protections put in place allowing transgender students to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity.
Protections that are currently in place against transgender discrimination may soon be rescinded by President Trump. New guidelines may soon be issued that would reverse the order, set under the Obama administration, allowing transgender students to use the bathroom befitting of their gender identity while at school.
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was in favor of keeping the protections in place, but ultimately caved in to pressure from the president and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is notoriously against LGBTQ rights. There is a stipulation in the order against the bullying of transgender students at DeVos’s request, but now that she and Sessions (heads of the departments of Education and Justice respectively) have signed off on it, the basic human rights of transgender students are once again being put at risk. Sign below to demand transgender students are treated with the dignity they deserve, and that their rights remain protected.
Dear President Trump,
The order that would rescind protections of the rights of transgender students to use the bathroom appropriate for their gender identity is unacceptable. It is a violation of their basic rights as American citizens.
Please do not roll back the steps that have been taken to diminish discrimination in this country. Equality is the foundation of America, and I urge you to protect that foundation and ensure that you truly do make America great again. Please do not strip our transgender students of their protections and their rights.
