End Violence Against Political Activists and Their Families

Target: Daniel Ortega, President of Nicaragua

Goal: Stop the violence against political activists and their families in Nicaragua.

The government of Nicaragua is allegedly condoning violence taken against political activists and their families. For example, activist Francesca Ramirez has been a victim of violence for her support of human rights. Her family has also been attacked. There are other individuals and groups that have been attacked by government supporters for voicing their discontent with the government and its abuses. This must end now.

The government of Nicaragua is slowly stripping away the rights of all citizens. Over one thousand women are raped a year. Sexual and reproductive rights have been eliminated. Freedom of expression is also under fire as journalists are attacked for their reporting. Free elections are also hindered.

All such events are reasons why opposition against the government is on the rise. The government must listen to this opposition, not silence it with violence. Sign the petition and demand that this violence be brought to an end.

Dear President Ortega,

Your country is finding itself in direct opposition of human and civil rights. Activists are being attacked, and their families are being targeted in retaliation. Women are victims of violence, voting rights are suppressed and the press is restricted.

A country can only flourish when there is active debate and energetic discussion in which all views are represented. Those in opposition to your government should not be silenced with violence. Their words should be heard so that changes can be made for the betterment of the country and its citizens. Please stop the violence against political activists and their families immediately.
