Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States
Goal: Do not repeal the Stream Protection Rule that prohibits unregulated dumping of toxic coal mining waste.
Congress has voted to repeal a rule that protects some of America’s waterways from being contaminated by dangerous waste from dumping at coal mining sites. The rule, known as the Stream Protection Rule, strictly limits the types and amount of coal mining waste that can be dumped in nearby waterways and ecosystems. It also obligates mining companies to restore waterways damaged by mining activities to as close to their natural state as possible. While the rule’s protections are not perfect, they remain a far better alternative to unregulated dumping.
Without the Stream Protection Rule, over 260 miles of U.S. streams are vulnerable to serious pollution from toxic heavy metals and other debris. If President Trump approves the repeal, delicate ecosystems and rural communities living near these affected waterways are the ones who have the most at stake. Tell the President to protect innocent Americans and our environment from dangerous, unnecessary water pollution by signing below.
Dear President Trump,
I am writing to you as a concerned American to implore you not to sign Congress’ repeal of the Stream Protection Rule. Although you have made it perfectly clear that you prioritize the economy over the environment at any cost, I cannot stand idly by and allow environmental regulations to be overturned.
Coal mining is an unsustainable industry that needs to be replaced, not rejuvenated. Creating new jobs in this industry is a short-term economic solution with long-term and potentially devastating effects for the environment. Don’t let future generations pay the price for this administration’s shortsightedness and greed. Do not approve the repeal of the Stream Protection Rule.
