Punish Trump Spokesperson for Illegally Promoting Ivanka Trump Clothing Line

Target: Walter M. Shaub, Director of the Office of Government Ethics

Goal: Reprimand Kellyanne Conway for endorsing products while being employed in a government office.

Kellyanne Conway took it upon herself to advertise for the Ivanka Trump clothing line on live TV while answering questions about Nordstrom’s decision to drop the low-performing brand. This is against the law. No one is allowed to use public office for private gain — Conway should be punished immediately. Her illegal actions include praising the quality of the products and claiming that she was going to buy some later that day during a televised interview. This controversy adds to suspicions that the Trump family has yet to divest from their companies, and may in fact be using governmental power to grow their personal wealth. Now Democrats are pushing for the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) to take action.

In order to actually penalize a presidential counselor, Donald Trump must issue the final punishment, but it is up to OGE to make a recommendation. Democrats are asking the office to define the proper disciplinary actions that should be taken in this instance and suggested suspending, demoting, or dismissing Conway completely. The White House claims that what she said was meant to be light-hearted and that they have taken care of the issue by “counseling” Conway, who admitted during her appearance that she was giving a free commercial. Sign this petition to demand that OGE recommend and publicly disclose the proper disciplinary action to punish Conway for promoting Trump’s brand.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Shaub,

If it is against your code of conduct for government workers to endorse products, then Kellyanne Conway should be punished for her actions immediately. She blatantly promoted the Ivanka Trump clothing line on live television, praising the quality of the products and revealing that she was going to buy some later that day. It is bad enough that our president has engaged in this through his tweets, and we must prevent the executive administration from getting away with this sort of conduct.

Democrats have suggested that Conway be demoted or completely dismissed from the White House. They are calling on you to reveal the proper action that should be taken in this case, and I am writing to add my voice to that call. Please detail how Conway should be reprimanded for her actions.

Sincerely,
