Don’t Tear Immigrant Families Apart

Target: Thomas D. Homan, Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Goal: Obey leniency laws established by President Obama in order to keep immigrant families together.

Garcia de Rayos, a mother with American-born children and who came illegally to the United States from Mexico when she was only a child, was recently deported by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite being granted leniency by President Obama, she was torn away from her young children and taken by van back to Mexico.

Her deportation is one of the first of the Trump Administration after he signed an executive order strengthening deportation laws. De Rayos was assured that she would not be deported if she continued to appear at routine ICE check-ins. She was following the law, doing as she was told and raising a family. However now she has been taken back to Mexico, a country she has not seen in two decades.

This action shows the lengths Trump is willing to take in order to enforce his hateful agenda. He is committed to ripping apart families. He has shown no regard for the protections his predecessor has put into place in order to protect those like de Rayos who are working hard to build a better life. Millions of other families are facing the same danger, the same heartbreak. Sign the petition and demand that ICE follow the orders put in place by President Obama in order to protect immigrant families.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Homan,

Recently Garcia de Rayos, a woman who was brought illegally to the country when she was only a child and who now has children who are American citizens, was torn away from her children and deported back to Mexico. De Rayos was granted leniency by President Obama and was cooperating fully with the law by attending routine ICE check-ins. However at her most recent check-in she was deported back to Mexico in a van without warning.

Her deportation is heartbreaking and alarming. She is a woman who has worked hard to follow the law and build a better life for herself. However now she has been forced back to a country she hasn’t seen in years. Not all undocumented immigrants pose a danger to society, though Donald Trump would have us believe otherwise. De Rayos has harmed no one. I demand that you protect those President Obama gave leniency to and keep families together, not tear them apart.

Sincerely,

  1. What Trump is doing is callous, cruel and unconscionable. And irrational.
To turn around and deport people after they have been given leniency is a betrayal of these people.

Horrible! Horrible! Are we in a nightmare?
