Target: President Donald Trump
Goal: Support development of solar energy in America’s energy plan.
President Trump’s “America First Energy Plan” does not even mention solar power, even though the solar industry has been exploding. Not only is solar power cleaner and better for the environment, it is also great for our economy.
The solar industry has posted dramatic job growth in recent years. According to the nonprofit Solar Foundation, over 51,000 jobs were added to the solar industry in 2016, and jobs have nearly tripled since they started tracking them in 2010. Over half of these jobs are in the installation of solar panels, which reflects the fact that the use of solar energy across America has been steadily growing. A new report calculates that solar is the second largest energy industry in the country when it comes to total jobs, which far surpasses coal.
With support from the government, this trend might be able to continue. This would hugely benefit American citizens by providing jobs and a clean source of energy that is far better for our environment. Demand that solar energy be included as part of our national energy plan.
Dear President Trump,
The solar industry has made huge positive contributions to our country. Not only is it a clean source of energy that protects our air and environment but it has also been hugely beneficial to our economy.
The solar industry is now America’s second largest energy industry in terms of total jobs, adding 51,000 jobs last year alone. Solar energy has been rapidly expanding across the country, seeing more and more people opt to install solar panels including nearly every state that voted for you. It would be irresponsible to ignore this trend.
With support from the government, the solar industry could continue this rate of growth, providing massive benefits to America in the form of protection of the environment, monetary contributions and jobs for thousands of citizens. I urge you to give solar energy the consideration it deserves by including it in America’s energy plan.
